Hi everyone. If I had it, I'd throw a hundred dollars into the wishing well for this one.
Here's the situation:
Last Friday afternoon, a very close friend of mine, Amanda, lost her son in a home fire around 3pm on Friday, April 17th. Fortunately Amanda was not at home at the time of the fire, but her 3.5 year old son Sean, and her 24 year old boyfriend of 10 years Thomas were. Neighbors were able to pull Thomas out of the trailer, but no one could get to Sean in time. The fire marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.
The reason that I am writing this is because Amanda and Thomas, in addition to losing their little boy, have lost EVERYTHING. Thomas has suffered burns over 50% of his body, and is currently in the Burn Unit ICU at Washington Center Hospital, in Washington DC. I am still awaiting word of his condition. Amanda is currently trying to find lodging in DC in order to stay near to him. Her parents live locally, but her mother has cancer and her father also is in poor health. Amanda and Thomas are only 24 years old, they have not had a chance to accrue any sort of savings. There is no insurance to cover the funeral costs, or the cost of replacing ANYTHING that was in their home. Thomas does have health insurance through his employer, but it's very doubtful that it will cover much of the medical care he will need.
I have set up a paypal donation for anyone who is interested in making a donation to this family. I realize that money is tight for everyone right now, but every little bit helps. Thoughts, well wishes, and prayers are also always welcome. Please forward this to any one you may think may be able to help, or may know someone else who could help.
If anyone is interested in sending clothing, these are their sizes:
Amanda
pants 7-9
shoes 8
tshirt med-large (she's small waisted and about 5ft tall, but she is very busty)
bra 36DD
underwear 7
Thomas
pants 34 34
shirts xl
shoes 12

Even if you can't donate money, if you could donate your time trying to spread the word about this, it would mean the world. If a thousand people each gave a dollar, well that's not a lot of money at once but it sure is at the end.

On behalf of Amanda and Thomas, I thank you all so much.
