I absolutely agree that there is no such thing as casual sex. And I think the thing that kids really need--on top of factual information about mechanics and protection--is the understanding that sex has physical, emotional, and psychological consequences, and if you're not prepared to deal with all of them, then you've got no business pursuing sexual relationships. There are good reasons to have it and bad reasons to have it, and differentiating is important!
it's probably because, even if your parents have a "good relationship," you never want to talk about sex with your parents because the thought of them doin' it is gross.
