Your tree looks amazing! It's wonderful that you have decorations from your Mom. My sister has the creche that our grandfather brought home from the church where he used to work (I want to think about 100 years ago). I love that nativity scene, but I couldn't take it away from her.
We have an artificial tree that's about 3 feet tall, and I have a mini about 18 inches high on a cubby in the computer room. Back when we had a local Kmart, I picked up the stable and Roman soldier's tent. For the past few years I haven't bothered taking them down from the closet. (When I disassemble the tree this year, everything will be packed away for the move.)
Your turkeys are massive! We have them wandering around down here, but they're small in comparison, and unfortunately, they tend to get hit by cars. :-\
Awww, thank you. Next year I'll pick up some more ornaments on the cheap at Dollarama, but I really love the way it turned out this year. I'm so glad I got it too, because seeing it and putting the lights on and everything has gone a long way to cheering me this season.
I've never seen turkeys so close before, and I was pretty astounded by the size (even though I see Cornelius the turkey, Esther the Wonder Pig's pal, hugging Steve all the time and intellectually know that they can be huge, but it's just seeing it in real life that makes it hit home, I guess.) I hope those guys made it somewhere safe in the wooded area.
I'm so happy that you got the tree! It looks really nice, too. I have some really old ornaments that my grandmother had made for me when I was a kid, so I get the sentimentality attached to them!
I love the turkeys! That is so amazing. All I get are lizards and the occasional quail!
Thanks so much. I'm so glad I got it, too. It's made a big difference. :)
Lizards are so cool, though. The times when I was in AZ I took photos of every lizard I saw. The people that lived there were like, "Uh, it's just a lizard." Me: IT'S A LIZARD. EEEEEE. *takes ten more photos* And I have never seen a quail, so that's cool too.
It's funny how something like that can lift your spirits just by looking at it.
Hahaha. That sounds like me when my friend and I drove from Houston, TX to Dallas, TX. I kept saying, "OMG, COWS!" and she was like, "Yes, Amy. Texas is a cattle state, calm down." LOL Quail are cute little birds and they tend to travel with the whole family in tow, which makes them kind of neat.
YES! And THAT reminded me of driving with my friend Jen and I was the same way. I'd be like, "OMG HORSES! LOOK!"... five minutes later, "OMG HORSES! LOOK!" And she'd be like, "Yes, Vicki. I cannot actually look because I am driving and if I look away from the road I may KILL US, but yay, horses."
Which did not stop me from still doing it. And with cows, too. :D
The funniest thing about this is that Jen's mom OWNED a horse *and* they boarded horses at Jen's house, so it's not like I didn't see them every time I went to her house. But still. THESE WERE DIFFERENT HORSES.
We see turkeys from time to time. A couple of years back a couple had nine chicks. It was so cool watching them grow, following their parents through the neighborhood.
The tree looks fantastic! I hope you found a spot for my decorations! LOL. I wish we had some heirloom-type decorations, but I honestly don't even remember what we used when I was a kid! However, we have a lot of things we've collected over the years since our kids were little, plus I keep buying stuff, so we have much to choose between. My younger daughter decorates the tree these days (a good fake about 5' tall) and has put an animal theme up again this year, though I made her put a set of my crocheted ones up too! ;-) It looks good. I must post a pic of that and some of our lights too.
Thanks! I was going to say that you can see them sitting on the tree skirt, but I must have taken the photo before I got your card. I always put out my presents under the tree, so they won't be used until next year!
It's funny because Margie has at least 6 boxes of our mom's old decorations, plain round glass balls and then some pretty teardrop shaped glass ones, and I don't remember any of them being on our tree growing up! I only remember the ones that I have in my post, and there's none of those left. (Margie has one of the spikey stars as well.)
Definitely looking forward to your tree and lights post. Still remember all the lights from last year! You do a great job.
Ah, it's all good! I do know how much you appreciate them, and it gave me warm fuzzies enough knowing that!
Memory is such a funny thing! My sister has a brilliant memory and seems to recall the smallest things, while I am the goldfish with the memory of 3 second, unless it is to do with movies, music and sometimes books!
Thanks! I need to film and photograph everything, as we have a couple of new things and I rearranged a bunch of things too this year. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.
