Double 5-Stars

Jul 28, 2022 20:28

This one was suggested by asphaltcowgrrl's book club back when I was looking for a book featuring a senior character. I didn't use it at that time, but I should have. Thanks, it was great!

73. An Elderly Lady Is Up To No Good by Helene Tursten

Maud is 88-years-old, lives rent-free in a spacious apartment due to a clever little clause in a contract when she was a young woman, and likes things just so. And if she occasionally has to engage in a few nefarious enterprises like the odd murder to keep things running smoothly in her life, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. This is a quirky and super fun series of short stories about the lengths pragmatic Maud will go to keep her life on track! And what actually happened to her sister, anyway? Highly recommended!

74. Gwendy’s Button Box by Stephen King & Richard Chizmar

Oh, the Dark Man. How interesting to see you here. This time around he’s got his eye on 12-year-old Gwendy, whom he gifts with a box that tends to make her every wish come true, but who’s dark purpose may just overshadow whatever good intentions she has. This was a quick but fun read with a nice pace and just enough foreboding that I worried whenever that box was mentioned.
