This is the first of, I think, 3 or 4 books in a series. The cover blurb also said it's been made into a TV show. Both things indicate that lots of people liked it. Alas, I found it a bit of a slog.

I'd never heard of it before I went searching for an anonymous author to fill my prompt. The book starts when Lila and Lenu are six or so, then jumps to their teens. Maybe I just don't have the patience for stupid teenagers.
