I found your review fascinating, so I checked it out on Amazon. I'm not sure I want to take on such a long book at this point, but I'm reading the same, and OMG I'm a wreck! I want to yell at Tom to call Clara and warn her to be careful. (her poor brother, and how will she react when she sees what her dad had to do to her mother?) I have the feeling that fight at the traffic accident might have involved zombies, and I'm so glad she didn't listen to Nick. Does he come along to Eugene?
Oooh, I'm excited that you picked it up based on my rec. I do think the great character development is what keeps the story moving. It most definitely does not end on a cliffhanger, though there are still ways forward that are hinting at for the next book. I'm thinking of looking over my Popsugar list to see if there's any prompts that the sequel might fit. If not, I may just go ahead and read it anyway. :)
Nick does come along to Eugene.
ETA: the second book hasn't been released yet. Ah well, something to look forward to. She does have another series of books set in the same universe that I may check out.

Poor Nick. As soon as they pulled into the driveway, I became certain he was a goner. :-\
I'm relieved it's not a cliffhanger. I can deal with ways forward.
This definitely goes on my TBR pile. Thank you!
