I'm going to go out on a limb here (in a non-sarcastic way) but I think .avi is not the same format as whatever format dvd movies use. Avi is actually a compressed file that you need separate codecs installed for, on your HDD. Are you using this option in power2go?

Hmm. Well yes, I was using the DVD-Video Disc option.

The thing is, DVD players play .avi files. If the file is originally .avi I can actually burn it as a data disc and it plays on the DVD player. It's only when I convert from mp4 (which doesn't play in my DVD player) to .avi that the problem occurs.

I just checked and there doesn't seem to be an mpeg2 option. Or I would give that a shot.

Technology. I hate it.

Thank you so much for trying to help! :)

Oh! Sorry, like I said, I'm totally in the dark here. Maybe the avi codec you're using is too new? Maybe it could work if you used an older one? Shit. Hope someone else will give you a hand, bb :x No luck on the google front either, huh?

Gah I just don't know. Google tells me that it won't l play files with "264" in the file name, things like that. But clearly it will since that test one worked. So I'm just confused.

Which program are you using to convert the files?

I tried 2 of them in case there was some difference in the way the convert. The freemake one that you suggested & another one. Same results with both.

Sorry, then. My DVD player wouldn't play avi files made with DVDVideosoft, for example, but it was fine with ones made by freemake. Are you using the "TV quality" settings for freemake? If you're leaving it as "same as source", that might be the issue.

Also, do you have any other options on your player for these files, like a disc on key or an SD card?

I was leaving it as "same as source". I'll try "TV quality" tonight and hope that makes a difference. Thank you!

I don't even know what that means. :(
