I am confused though --was this Norbert Butz guy, who sings Fiyero on the cast recording, in the play with Randy?

Not sure why you're confused, but yes he was, for some of Randy's run at least. Norbert's last show (and Kristen's) was mid-July and Randy was part of the cast then - not sure when Randy's last was.

Thank you. :) On the audio clips I've heard of the show, Norbert's voice sounds different to me. So I thought maybe it was a different guy.

Ah, I see. I know when I heard one live version I had to double check to see if it was Idina playing Ephaba because it sounded so different!

Checking the dates, Randy had a week after Norbert left, so it's possible the clips you have could either be Norbert or Joey McIntyre (the following and current Fiyero).

I checked, and it is indeed Norbert. I imagine everyone in the cast has bad days when their voices just aren't up to par. It must take a lot out of them, singing their hearts out day in and day out.
