Diagon Alley [Open to Any and All?]

Aug 03, 2009 20:14

Mum had wanted to go to Diagon Alley and Uncle Andre, just to show him around…prove somehow that they weren’t less than the French because they were in England. It meant, really, that Leon had wanted to go too…just to see what Uncle Andre thought, to just be near him in a way that was probably a bit too puppish in the eyes of many. There were days ( Read more... )

No, Janis wasn't toting around new knitting patters for cat sweaters, because that'd just be weird in August. Nor was she humming Please Excuse My Face because once again. Weird.

Either way, one was hidden and the other was stopped when she saw Leon a few meters away. She started to bounce, trying to flag him down all the while going 'psst' and shouting his name.

So much for not being weird.

Leon blinked, watching Janis for a few moments. It wasn't that he was...unhappy to see her, it was just that she wasn't exactly the people he was looking for.

"Hey," he said, hands stuffed in his pockets as he made his way to her. "Thought you got all your school stuff last week, what are you doing here?"

She stuffed her packet of papers in the back of her pants, the yarn uhm... well... it went under her arm. He wouldn't notice, right?

"Buying... cat.... stuff. What are you up to!?!"

He reached out and tugged at the yarn until he had it in his hands and raised a brow.

"Cat stuff?" He smirked. She was odd, but he rather liked her because of it. "I'm looking for my Mum and Uncle. My Uncle's here! He's going to buy a house in London, it is really a bit exciting. He's never left France before."

Appolonia was researching for her new textbook- no never mind that the signs said it wouldn't be used, she had to finish it.

The students needed this knowledge. The history of divination- the story of her family, of the Trelawnys, of all of the great families of the wizarding world. Prophecy was not something to be trifled with. Just that morning her tea leaves warned her that a warning was coming.

The young professor muttered to herself as she walked down the street. She stared for a full two seconds before speaking to the student in the street. "You're being trailed by a glogywarse cloud."

That startled him. He wasn't exactly expecting to run across one of the professors, and worse yet one was telling him something he didn't understand? Not that, mind you, he ever put much stock into divination. But you did tend to listen when professors said things.

"Professor?" He asked quizzically. "I'm sorry, I don't know what that means..."

"You wouldn't know. No one ever reads my books. I explain them clearly in chapter twenty four." She seemed surprised that he didn't know... but three days ago she noted that her chart was a little off, and there was that odd loratd.

"Happy, you are, that they don't know what it is." After narrowing her eyes, she shook her head "I'll have to give my students three scrolls on that."

"...but, are you not going to tell me?" He seemed a little disappointed in that. It wasn't like he really could waste time to go look it up himself. He had more important things to study for, what with NEWTs in at least eight courses. Aye Merlin! He just realized that too.

Eight.

"What? Who doesn't know? Professor?"

Fenrir sat on a street corner, wearing a miserably dirty fur coat and an old sea captain's hat he'd liberated from somewhere or other. With his long dirty hair and scruffy beard, he had the perfect disguise.

He shook an old beer stein back and forth, clanging with the change that was already in there. "Spare some knuts, guvnor?"

Blinking, Leon stared at the man for a long time. His parents probably would have found some polite way of saying no, or given him a few coin before steering them all away quickly. But Leon was hardly his parents.

"Do I look like I have any coins?" He asked rather brazenly, before taking a slight step back. "Why don't you go ask someone else." Where was his mother, honestly?

"Yeh look like yeh've got a fine livelihood to me," Fenrir said, shrugging. "Yeh also look lost. Can't find yer mummy?"

"...Doesn't mean I have any knuts on me, or any money really." It wasn't like he held on to the money. "...I'm not lost. I know where I am..."

But he did look around again, trying to spot someone he knew. That wasn't dirty and creepy.

Gael was standing in the gap between the bookshop and another building, two blind brick walls creating a tiny alley off of Diagon Alley itself. Once he saw his brother coming out of the bookshop, he stepped out into the main thoroughfare slightly, snapping his fingers and waving to get Leon’s attention.

‘Pssssst. Leon. Come here for a minute. I want to show you something.’

Leon turned to look at Gael with a frown. Show him something? Show him what? What could be ridiculous enough that he needed to off into a tiny alley to go see it?

Of course he shrugged and moved toward his brother, despite having some idea that this was probably just an excuse to do something childish. "What?"

'I found something strange. Shhh.'

Gael walked into the alley, looking back to see that his brother was following him and to gauge the distance from the street.

Once he was far enough down to be sure no one on the street would see or hear them, he stopped, turned around swiftly and sucker punched his brother in the gut.

Leon's eyes went wide when Gael nailed him in the stomach, almost falling on Gael in the process of trying to figure out why he couldn't breathe. This was most certainly not something strange, but it was annoying.

"What the bloody," he gasped for air as he tried to stand up. "The fuck?"

Ren hadn't wandered too far off. But as she had invited her brother along on this journey, it was only polite to keep up with him. Of course...that was before he decided to go to Knockturn Alley. Now he was on his own. And without Leon, thank goodness. She knew for a fact, he was still in the bookstore.

Which meant she still had a little bit before he even noticed they were gone. Just enough time to start perusing the boys Birthday presents.

Ah-ha! There she was! He watched her through the shop window for a few moments, trying to figure out what she was looking at and why. Though, where was Uncle Andre? Frowning, he looked around the street again, curious.

Whatever she was looking at, it was obviously housed in the shop's case as she was looking down and pointing at something. As the shop keep handed it to her, she examined it carefully -- as if whatever it was was extremely important. And it a way, it was.

Leon looked back, peering into the shop curiously again. He couldn't see what she was looking at though, and it disappointed him a little. After a moment, though, he gave up and headed for the door up into the shop.

"Mum..." he said, coming up beside her to look at what was in her hands. He was a nosey kid.
