Sherlock neverending rec post of doom part II: the revenge of the gay zombie pirate male strippers
Never mind the title of this post, you'll just get Sherlock recs for the most part. I hope you're not too dissappoint.
Here below are new categories because I don't like repeating myself, fanvids recs like last time, and the novelties are art recs and comm pimpage, because there are some fantastic comms related to Sherlock out there and art needs to be recced too. Oh and there's one fanmix ^^

***Category: "Fics I would take with me on a desert island". They are fics that I've re-read at least five or six times, so they've got more than my stamp of approval all over them: they've also won my eternal love.

*First comes A Thorough Examination/In Depth (part 1/ part 2) by the fantastic writer that is emungere . Rating: VERY VERY SUPER NC-17 and kinky; like, when someone who lives in a tropical country warns you "careful, this dish is *very* hot" and you go "haha, well I do like a little spice" and have an enormous mouthful and afterwards you wish you had died on the spot instead of living to regret it? Well this is quite comparable. I've already recced it like a crazy person (so if you want a summary and warnings for this fic, check this post first), drawn fanart based on it, so it just goes to show how much I love this fic and want to have its babies. I'm just taking the opportunity to rec it again because at the time I didn't know who was responsible for this thing of beauty and now I can shout my love for its wonderful author. Man I love LJ.
*The Whore of Babylon Was a Perfectly Nice Girl by out_there (on Dreamwidth). Rating: NC-17. DUDE. THIS FUCKING FIC. It's so perfect I don't even know where to begin. As usual with this author, the plot is very carefully woven; the construction of the whole and the Sherlockian!logic are flawless. I also love how it just throws fanon out of the window and manages to look perfectly fit for canon. Just read it, is all I can say.
* Highly Intelligent, Observant, and Destructive When Bored (John/Sherlock, rating: PG-13), its sequel Feels Like Drowning (Mycroft/John/Sherlock, rating: NC-17), and their prequel, Asteroidea (Gen, PG-13), by etothepii . I recommend reading all of them in the exact order of my rec, for various reasons; just trust me. It's a Sherlock/His Dark Materials fusion fic, and it's BRILLIANT (and John's daemon is Made Of Win). There is a crossover category a bit further below in this post, and also subcategories for Holmescest and threesome, but this is transcendant enough to overcome your squicks about crossovers *or* incest, guys. I love it when a fic actually tells a story, with twists and turns and suspense and the stuff good stories are made of, and this author is very successful at all of the listed above. Which is why I need to rec a second fic of his/hers:
*Everything You Won't Tell Me (Is Mapped in Your Scars) part 1/ part 2 by etothepii . Rating: NC-17. It's a BDSM AU, and I think this verse is utter genius. I'd love to read/write/draw entire sagas based on it; it's a shame that I know nothing about Stargate, because I would have LOVED to read the founding fic that's created it. At any rate, this fic right here, is hot like magma, and clever and gripping. You can also read the prequels: You Need Someone (But It Won't Be Me) (Sherlock/Lestrade, rating: NC-17) and It's Easy to Trust Someone Who Can't Break You (Sherlock/Lestrade, Sherlock/John, rating: R), but I recommend reading Everything You Won't Tell Me first.
*Entirely Covered in Your Invisible Name part 1/part 2 by wordstrings . Rating: NC-17. wordstrings is already a legend amongst the fandom and barely needs to be presented, even less recced (even I have already done it multiple times), but who cares, I never said I wanted to be edgy and original in my recs. Of course you need to read the whole Paradox series first to really appreciate it. Might I add without spoiling too much, Sherlock "playacting" gay is one of the hottest things I've ever read!
* Ain't Seen the Sunshine (Since I Don't Know When) (multi-chaptered, 28 parts) by emungere . Rating: PG-13. AU where John is young!Sherlock and young!Mycroft's nanny, and no, it's not as creepy or corny as it sounds (depending on how twisted you really are). It's a testament to how good emungere is, for with this she's managed to make me rec in this category a fic that's NOT John/Sherlock (it's actually an eventual John/Lestrade holy shit, I DON'T SHIP IT AT ALL and still...!), and not even NC-17(!).
*Winter's Delights part 1/ part 2/ part 3 by kate_lear . Rating: NC-17. Christmas fic. Sherlock and John spend Christmas with the Holmes family, which turns out to be more populated than John expected. Good God but the porn is incredible; one of the best I've ever read. Lovely, sexy and very heart-warming. And the OCs are hilarious.
***Category: "John, John, John". Because in my previous post I've mainly focused on Sherlock, and now I feel I need to pay tribute to the BAMF coolness of the awesome that is John H. motherfucking Watson.

*Balls of Steel by out_there . Rating: R (Gen). Generation Kill crossover, full of testosterone, and perfectly readable for people who haven't watched Generation Kill. Anyway, it's something by out_there , so read it.

* Pavlov's Remote by lillyankh . Rating: R. This fic is such a bunch of fun, and from Lestrade's POV to top it off: John tries to train Sherlock into being less rude by using very "special" methods. I'd love more S/J slash from Lestrade's POV!
* Doppelganger by mazarin221b . Rating: PG-13. Apparently, John Watson has a thing for slim, tall brunettes with clear eyes and ivory skin. Cute read, and sneaky!John is sneaky. :D Porn sequel (NC-17): Let the Clocks Be Reset.

*Shadows on the Wall by aramuin (on AO3). Rating: R. A huge remix of all three episodes, with the considerable tweak that John has psychic powers and is able to predict the future to a certain extent. The author has managed to make it believable and quite respectful of canon in the end, I can only tip my hat to that.
***Category: "What the hell did I just read?" Sheer utter crack fics, completely unique, the kind that makes you stupidly glad you belong to such a fantastic fandom.

* The Lobster Quadrille, sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: PG. The Great Game remix, with Sherlock, John, Moriarty as lobsters armed with knives. I just don't know what to say, except read it. I think the love child of Terry Pratchett and the Monty Pythons wrote this. Oh God. And the names... Don't think. Click on the link. You know you want to.
* Caveman Fill, on sherlockbbc_fic by anon. Rating: PG. John and Sherlock as cavemen. And it's as funny and cool as it sounds. Just. Go read.
***Category: "Usually not my thing, but..." You don't ship it, it squicks you, it's not your cup of tea, but you know that there are some fics out there that can momentarily turn you, at least just the once.

* Play With Me, sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: R (drug use, incest). I'm not a big Mycroft/Sherlock shipper (I'd say this ship is rather inexistant to me), but this is really good: without betraying the essence of the characters, the author has managed to make it believable; Mycroft, especially, is pitch-perfect. I love this to bits.
**Sub-category: Threesumz fuck yeah (Mycroft/John/Sherlock)
So I don't know about you, but Holmescest seems bearable to me only when John is involved too. Go figure.
* Modern Warfare by entangled_now . Rating: very NC-17. The fic that's started it all, I'd say. The art (Not Safe For Work!) by dauntdraws convinced me to read it (because, holy shit, HOT), and then I was done for. You're gonna need a cold shower with the combination of the two.
* A Little Social Game by velvet_mace . Rating: NC-17. It's just not fair when velvet_mace starts writing for something you don't want to ship, because it becomes difficult to resist then. Unfair, but still scorchingly hot.
**Sub-category: Mystrade, because even if you don't ship it, you must admit it's a lulzy pairing name
*Mate part 1/part 2 by velvet_mace . Rating: NC-17. Vampire AU with vampire!Mycroft and Sherlock. Very interesting verse, and I loved Lestrade's characterization in this. The sex is, of course, hot, as always!
*Umbrella by emungere . Rating: NC-17. Rough and dirty Lestrade for a prim and proper Mycroft, I can see the attraction in the pairing now. emungere's characterization is incredible as usual.
* When first we practice to deceive, sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: R I'd say. Awesome prompt, and awesome fill -- it's a hugely fun fic, and Mycroft and Anthea are absolutely kickass in this.
**Sub-category: Okay so sometimes I read asexual!Sherlock fics and rec them, so what
* Solve for (se)x, and its sequel, Research Purposes by robotsdance . Rating: NC-17. Asexual!Sherlock experiments sexuality intensely. Very well-written, with a spot-on Sherlock voice.
*Your Moral Crisis is Stupid by etothepii . Rating: NC-17. Could have fit in the "John" category too, because John is wonderful in this story. I don't know why, but I found this fic terribly touching, and it made me cry a little. Beautiful stuff.

*Dreaming of forgiveness by velvet_mace . Rating: R, Mycroft/John, past Sherlock/John. Soooo, that's a lot of fics by velvet_mace that I've recced so far, but the girl is talented and productive. Very dark fic, haunting and somehow it touches something deep and true about the relationships between the characters involved. Mycroft is particularly terrifying in this one.
* Goodnight, my friends by pixieblues . Rating: NC-17 (More or less Gen). A peculiar fic, very well written, that shows a retrospective of Moriarty's life through the murders he committed. Strangely alluring.
***Category: "Holy crossover, Batman!" Crossovers, fusions, inspiration... the more far-fetched the better.
(Beauty and the Beast/Sherlock crossover of doom, made by some illustrious genius and found on TumblR)
* Time In Lieu Of by squidwhisk , and its sequel in WiP Can't Live on Milk Alone. Rating: I'd say R, maybe. Breathtaking Good Omens fusion, and instead of the same old Aziraphale and Crowley routine (Good Omens/Sherlock crossovers are terribly popular in this fandom, it seems), John, Harriet, Anthea and Sebastian Moran are the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Incredibly good story, terribly exciting, and I can't imagine where the sequel is taking us. It's a brilliant idea, and all the characters are SUPER BADASS. Ooooh I LOVE this.
* John Watson Versus The World, WiP by lillyankh . Rating: G. Scott Pilgrim fusion as the title suggests; the fic embraces completely the concept and holds tremendous amounts of fun and marvellous humor. And I'm not even a Scott Pilgrim fan (in fact, I rather hate the comics, and I haven't seen the movie yet). Gorgeous, I can't wait to read more.
* RDJ!Holmes and BBC!John shkinkmeme fill by anon. Rating: NC-17 (?). This crossover is of course not as much of a stretch as the others, but it's delightful nevertheless. And it all ends up with Sherlock/John, which is the way it should be! =D
* The Letter of the Lore, sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: PG-13 I'd say. Based on the Dresden Files, haven't read the books but understood just fine without. Sherlock and Mycroft have Faerie blood in them, which has pretty much defined their whole lives and personalities, and gave them strange customs and habits to follow. Take a look at Benedict's features and you'll see how this works perfectly (Titania, remember?). Fascinating verse, very good fic.
* Man's Original Virtue sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: PG-13 I'd say. Ella Enchanted fusion apparently; again, I've never heard of this book before, and it's perfectly readable without knowing the original inspiration. John's cursed with the inability to disobey orders. Super interesting, and completely IC all the way.
* Equivalent Exchange by thedeadparrot . Rating: R. Fullmetal Alchemist fusion. I'm a huge FMA fan (the first animated series, not the manga, and certainly not Brotherhood) so I've appreciated this a great deal; the transposition is cleverly done and does justice to both verses.
Okay, we're done with the fics for now. I still have some left aside because it's getting late, but I might do another small, less complicated rec post simply with good smut and no comments or gifs, somewhere in the very near future.

*First, ANYTHING by pollums . I discovered her art by chance, and it became one of my favourite things in life. Seriously. Check her "Moffat Holmes" tag (or her "Sherlock Holmes" tag more generally) and prepare to be blown away.
*sadynax , a bit like wordstrings , doesn't need to be presented or recced, but if you've never heard of her, it needs to be fixed. Everything Holmes she does is adorable and funny beyond words; I recommend especially "Leave my boyfriend alone" part 1/ part 2 (worksafe) a baby!Sherlock comics (Mycroft is wayyy too cute, even though he seems a bit of a prick), " Clearly" a Sherlock comics in Paris (rather worksafe if someone's not closely reading over your shoulder), the irresistible SH baby mix and the MASSIVE EPIC WIN that is her Sherlock Holmes remix meme.
*All of angrybeige 's comics. Her journal is entirely devoted to her Sherlock madness fest, check it out, all of it needs to be put in a museum.
* Genderbent Sherlock by naive_wanderer . Worksafe. I've seen a lot of genderbent Sherlocks in this fandom and this one is by far the most successful; the sexy black lace stockings is an utterly genius detail (since Sherlock is supposedly asexual but nevertheless dresses elegantly and sexily) and of course "Sherlockia" would be as classically feminine as Sherlock is classically masculine. Love her fashionable shoes too. And "Joan" (or "Jane"?) is also absolutely perfect -- man I'm very picky about my femmeslash, but I would ship the hell out of these two.
*The " Sherlock gets a Facebook" Photoshop manips by sherlockiangirl . Funny as hell, and oh so appropriate (I think my favourite is Lestrade's, which brought tears of laughter to my eyes).

*Closer by KinOksana. NOT worksafe, Sherlock/John. Every fandom needs a sexy vid on NIN's "Closer" and this one is superb, with a great editing.

* Play With Me, sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: R (drug use, incest). I'm not a big Mycroft/Sherlock shipper (I'd say this ship is rather inexistant to me), but this is really good: without betraying the essence of the characters, the author has managed to make it believable; Mycroft, especially, is pitch-perfect. I love this to bits.
**Sub-category: Threesumz fuck yeah (Mycroft/John/Sherlock)
So I don't know about you, but Holmescest seems bearable to me only when John is involved too. Go figure.
* Modern Warfare by entangled_now . Rating: very NC-17. The fic that's started it all, I'd say. The art (Not Safe For Work!) by dauntdraws convinced me to read it (because, holy shit, HOT), and then I was done for. You're gonna need a cold shower with the combination of the two.
* A Little Social Game by velvet_mace . Rating: NC-17. It's just not fair when velvet_mace starts writing for something you don't want to ship, because it becomes difficult to resist then. Unfair, but still scorchingly hot.
**Sub-category: Mystrade, because even if you don't ship it, you must admit it's a lulzy pairing name
*Mate part 1/part 2 by velvet_mace . Rating: NC-17. Vampire AU with vampire!Mycroft and Sherlock. Very interesting verse, and I loved Lestrade's characterization in this. The sex is, of course, hot, as always!
*Umbrella by emungere . Rating: NC-17. Rough and dirty Lestrade for a prim and proper Mycroft, I can see the attraction in the pairing now. emungere's characterization is incredible as usual.
* When first we practice to deceive, sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: R I'd say. Awesome prompt, and awesome fill -- it's a hugely fun fic, and Mycroft and Anthea are absolutely kickass in this.

* Solve for (se)x, and its sequel, Research Purposes by robotsdance . Rating: NC-17. Asexual!Sherlock experiments sexuality intensely. Very well-written, with a spot-on Sherlock voice.
*Your Moral Crisis is Stupid by etothepii . Rating: NC-17. Could have fit in the "John" category too, because John is wonderful in this story. I don't know why, but I found this fic terribly touching, and it made me cry a little. Beautiful stuff.

*Dreaming of forgiveness by velvet_mace . Rating: R, Mycroft/John, past Sherlock/John. Soooo, that's a lot of fics by velvet_mace that I've recced so far, but the girl is talented and productive. Very dark fic, haunting and somehow it touches something deep and true about the relationships between the characters involved. Mycroft is particularly terrifying in this one.
* Goodnight, my friends by pixieblues . Rating: NC-17 (More or less Gen). A peculiar fic, very well written, that shows a retrospective of Moriarty's life through the murders he committed. Strangely alluring.
***Category: "Holy crossover, Batman!" Crossovers, fusions, inspiration... the more far-fetched the better.

* Time In Lieu Of by squidwhisk , and its sequel in WiP Can't Live on Milk Alone. Rating: I'd say R, maybe. Breathtaking Good Omens fusion, and instead of the same old Aziraphale and Crowley routine (Good Omens/Sherlock crossovers are terribly popular in this fandom, it seems), John, Harriet, Anthea and Sebastian Moran are the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Incredibly good story, terribly exciting, and I can't imagine where the sequel is taking us. It's a brilliant idea, and all the characters are SUPER BADASS. Ooooh I LOVE this.
* John Watson Versus The World, WiP by lillyankh . Rating: G. Scott Pilgrim fusion as the title suggests; the fic embraces completely the concept and holds tremendous amounts of fun and marvellous humor. And I'm not even a Scott Pilgrim fan (in fact, I rather hate the comics, and I haven't seen the movie yet). Gorgeous, I can't wait to read more.
* RDJ!Holmes and BBC!John shkinkmeme fill by anon. Rating: NC-17 (?). This crossover is of course not as much of a stretch as the others, but it's delightful nevertheless. And it all ends up with Sherlock/John, which is the way it should be! =D
* The Letter of the Lore, sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: PG-13 I'd say. Based on the Dresden Files, haven't read the books but understood just fine without. Sherlock and Mycroft have Faerie blood in them, which has pretty much defined their whole lives and personalities, and gave them strange customs and habits to follow. Take a look at Benedict's features and you'll see how this works perfectly (Titania, remember?). Fascinating verse, very good fic.
* Man's Original Virtue sherlockbbc_fic fill by anon. Rating: PG-13 I'd say. Ella Enchanted fusion apparently; again, I've never heard of this book before, and it's perfectly readable without knowing the original inspiration. John's cursed with the inability to disobey orders. Super interesting, and completely IC all the way.
* Equivalent Exchange by thedeadparrot . Rating: R. Fullmetal Alchemist fusion. I'm a huge FMA fan (the first animated series, not the manga, and certainly not Brotherhood) so I've appreciated this a great deal; the transposition is cleverly done and does justice to both verses.
Okay, we're done with the fics for now. I still have some left aside because it's getting late, but I might do another small, less complicated rec post simply with good smut and no comments or gifs, somewhere in the very near future.

*First, ANYTHING by pollums . I discovered her art by chance, and it became one of my favourite things in life. Seriously. Check her "Moffat Holmes" tag (or her "Sherlock Holmes" tag more generally) and prepare to be blown away.
*sadynax , a bit like wordstrings , doesn't need to be presented or recced, but if you've never heard of her, it needs to be fixed. Everything Holmes she does is adorable and funny beyond words; I recommend especially "Leave my boyfriend alone" part 1/ part 2 (worksafe) a baby!Sherlock comics (Mycroft is wayyy too cute, even though he seems a bit of a prick), " Clearly" a Sherlock comics in Paris (rather worksafe if someone's not closely reading over your shoulder), the irresistible SH baby mix and the MASSIVE EPIC WIN that is her Sherlock Holmes remix meme.
*All of angrybeige 's comics. Her journal is entirely devoted to her Sherlock madness fest, check it out, all of it needs to be put in a museum.
* Genderbent Sherlock by naive_wanderer . Worksafe. I've seen a lot of genderbent Sherlocks in this fandom and this one is by far the most successful; the sexy black lace stockings is an utterly genius detail (since Sherlock is supposedly asexual but nevertheless dresses elegantly and sexily) and of course "Sherlockia" would be as classically feminine as Sherlock is classically masculine. Love her fashionable shoes too. And "Joan" (or "Jane"?) is also absolutely perfect -- man I'm very picky about my femmeslash, but I would ship the hell out of these two.
*The " Sherlock gets a Facebook" Photoshop manips by sherlockiangirl . Funny as hell, and oh so appropriate (I think my favourite is Lestrade's, which brought tears of laughter to my eyes).

*Closer by KinOksana. NOT worksafe, Sherlock/John. Every fandom needs a sexy vid on NIN's "Closer" and this one is superb, with a great editing.
*I Wanna Do Bad Things With You by ImperviousAffinity. Worksafe Sherlock/John slash, on Jace Everett's famous opening song of HBO's True Blood series.
*I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor by limabetaed. Sherlock/John, worksafe, title song by The Arctic Monkeys. A very British band for a very British show, it doesn't get more appropriate than this. I love rythmic vids ^^

I haven't listened to a lot of fanmixes in this fandom, but I kind of fell in love with na_shao 's (okay, so she made it for me, but it's *objectively* really good).
* Your Little Blue Veins by na_shao . Has a bluesy feel to it that I love, and she didn't fall in the easy trap of making an angsty mix, so props to her for that. The songs are all very appropriate, I also love the fact that it's a short mix, it's perfectly balanced and just what was needed to define the dynamics between Sherlock and John.
