Post-Vividcon: Possible New Fandoms

Aug 17, 2012 10:55

As always, I walked out of Vividcon with at least some interest in a couple of new fandoms. No idea if I'll actually manage to get into all of them, but they've at least been put on the list.

Let's see... first of all, there's Game of Thrones, which was actually already on my to-watch list. I tried a few episodes back when it first started but ( Read more... )

For me, the Quantum Leap vid is Giandujakiss's American Music. Brilliant.

Hmm. Maybe I could set up a username/password for you so you could upload them directly to my website? Would that be a possibility?

Game of Thrones is good, though I'm not particularly fannish about it. It certainly is a gorgeous looking show. OUAT I liked more and more as the year went on. I was a little skeptical of the premise at first, but they won me over big time. Which brings us to Justified [ahem] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST SHOW ON TV!!!!!!!!! :D

Funny, QL and Sentinel were shows it seemed everyone in my fandom circles watched - even my mum and brother did. I never watched them, and can't quite remember why. I think it's the same reason I missed Magnificent 7 initially - one VCR and only being able to record one thing at a time.

That seems to be a popular opinion when it comes to Justified. :-P

Hugs. It is an amazing show, totally, but I get that some stuff is just too close to home. Though Raylan gets frequently slashed with either Boyd or Tim, so maybe that helps. If you watch it, maybe you can help me with the conundrum of how well the actors do the Kentucky accent?

If I do start watching it, I'll let you know my opinion of the accents. :)

(For the record? That would be another reason I tend to shy away from shows set in the South. Or, at least, Kentucky which isn't considered a Southern state where I'm from but is still pretty close.)

I totally get that, it would drive me rond the bend, hearing actors do my local accent badly (even though I myself do not speak it). And yes, I got really confused about Kentuckys affiliation. On the map it looks pretty Northern to me, but that drawl sounds much more similar to the Southern dialects than Northern speech patterns.

Kentucky really is a border state. The more rural areas, especially those in the coal region, are much more like the traditional Southern states, while the more urban areas are more like the "North." Most Kentuckians consider themselves Southerners, and most Northerners consider them Southerners as well. Most actual Southerners (i.e., those from Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina), though, don't consider Kentuckians to be Southerners.

It's one of those regional things that even people who live in the States argue about.
