Part ADell fought me and fought me, because they totes don't want my money (God, I think I should just start signing off my paychecks to them and amazon already; it would make all our lives easier), but by God, I got a replacement keyboard for my laptop (and wasnt' that hideously expensive) and a new internal hard drive (which ironically cost the ( Read more... )

...wow. I want to draw your attention to the contast between the boy in your icon and the one in mine. I was going to scoff so hard at howt... clean-cut mine is, but then my affection for soldiers is a well-documented (and much-mocked) fact.

I cannot offer words of comfort or advice while computers continue their trend of sucking for me in every sense of the word.

That RPS fic does look tempting though... (Damn you Merlin fandom for making me break my own codes! What with your plausibility and your mancrushes and your rubber faces and your unintelligible(to-a-point) accents and your scenic roadtrips and your filming everything and your delightful teasing and your amusing commentary and your deliberately fueling 'the websites' and your slashing of your own characters and your Tate skits and your inability to take your eyes off eachother and...It's like a gateway drug, I tell you!)

Oh, I had codes and rules. *looks into the distance sadly* Now I am prereading someone's AIRPS fic and pondering pan-fandom mpreg. I--just don't know.

BUT READ THE STORY. God, her worldbuilding is just--*helpless*. I would read this as a novel, I'm so entranced.

Hahaha I remember the days when I thought RPS was weird and just went too far... now I think I actually read more RPS than not (in part because I am not, actually, about the Wincest but the actors are SO PRETTY and also, slash is canon in AIRPS!).

I'm totally clicking the link, even though I despise the way WiPs leave me hanging (the best ones always end up abandoned).

Also Part C made me lol. :D

God, AIRPS. I was fine for two years! Sometimes picked up the songs? Read the fic casually. Now it's like why didn't yeats update her rec list? I AM GOING TO SNAP AND DESTROY WORLDS.

Me and computers just--something. I don't even know.

I've been running the Windows 7 Release Candidate for several months now, and it's essentially a Windows Vista that's been cleaned up and made to behave itself properly. (Sort of like what Windows 98 was to Windows 95, if anyone remembers that far back.)

I miss '98. Is that weird? I do.

I'm probably getting my mom Windows 7 in the new year because she's using Vista and I'm her only tech support, and I'm way too close to making her learn Linux by force if necessary. I just wish the RAM requirements weren't so high--I'll need to upgrade that before we start. Her Guild Wars takes a ton, and that's with a video card in place. *sighs*

Since Windows 7 requires only (ha!) 2GB instead of 4GB (Vista is a RAM whore, yes indeedy), upgrades shouldn't be too bad. I've been holding out until I hear more; I'd still be with XP hadn't decided the HD was past its sell-by date. ::sigh::

There's a Windows 7 for Dummies if you wanna do some scouting.

My sane computer engineer best friend is running windows 7 on her netbook and finds it pretty tolerable.

Ooh, I like hearing this! *hopeful* I'm installing on my Mom's after Christmas, because honestly, at this point, anything is better than the crap Vista keeps doing to her computer. This makes me think I won't be crying during!

I think I'm going to wait till after the first service pack, but yeah, they finally DEBUGGED VISTA from the sounds of it. Also, multi-touch support. This is me, getting on board with that shit.

Señor and his computer-building friends are fans of Windows 7, and it's what I have on the new (two and a half weeks or somewhere in that vicinity) laptop. I was deadset against changing from XP, because I knew its quirks, but Windows 7 is actually working very nicely, and it's been easy to track down the things I'm inclined to tweak no matter how awesome a company thinks their operating system is (I'm an inveterate customizer; it's best to leave me access to all parts of my computer, and let me work out for myself that your default will make me happiest).
