Ah, from Beardsley's Tannhauser illustrations, how wonderful! Those are some of my favorite Beardsley drawings, as well as his wonderful illustrations for Pope's Rape of the Lock.
Do you know, I just realized, I haven't the foggiest idea what your field is? Is it Literature, Classics, History? I know you're a professor, but of what? Inquiring women from across the pond want to know, or at least this one does.

Ooh, I'm not sure you should be telling me this ;) ! Seriously, though, I am also a strict interdisciplinarian, so I understand completely. Sorry to be so nosy, I'm afraid I rather embody the full saying, "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back." So I'm justly killed, but I still have eight lives left ;).
The scent of blood sometimes drives 'em into a frenzy, y'know...sensaesNovember 13 2007, 19:42:15 UTC
*G* No worries.
Last night's nonsense aside, somewhere "out there" is a collaborative paper called The Postmodernist's Pedagogical Toolkit with a section that deals with this stuff. (It's a bit dated now, and not very good, but the relevant passage - "Private Obfuscation in Public Places" - may be worth revising for the next generation of eager beavers who underestimate the human element when it comes to splashing themselves all over the 'Net.)

Oh, you probably just need a new hobby, or something.
Double your dose, and look at the wonderful Beardsley illustration above. Now there's art!

I try to keep that sort of nonsense under my (many) hats.
It's bad enough when worlds collide on here, and bits and pieces of my research interests slip out...
