The universal complaint I have had about The Consumerist for several years now has been, in brief, that they encourage people to be monstrous fucking assholes to customer service and retail employees because they can get away with it. Typical corporate-employed drones like myself can't risk our jobs by telling people we don't want to do business ( Read more... )

A couple things though (and this is coming from a fan of the site)

Phil wrote that. Phil is...not really the best (frankly, the worst) writer on staff. He sensationalizes, doesn't fact check, etc. He's not really indicative of the general site.

I don't get the sense that they encourage people to be assholes to CSRs - at least, not unless they start being an asshole first. Even in that article they aren't saying "do this" they're making reference to the material in question, and then asking which works better. The comments tend to reflect the general direction of the site too - they wouldn't be calling out the author of the "be a jerk" if the site was like that all the time.

Hell, most of the stories they run are about incompetent corporations and/or CSRs and people being at the end of their rope with it.

It's pretty sick that anyone would advocate being an asshole to a total stranger who may or may not have anything to do with the problem in question. It's worse that so many businesses bend over backwards for these fuckstains. If the strategy didn't work, no one would bother with it ( ... )

Seriously!! i work as a phone operator for deaf people. the people and even kids i have to deal with on a day to day basis is exauhsting. On the other hand were paid to do such . Were paid by a person who is larger than us to take abuse. It royally sucks. Wroking world.FU.
