Livejournal needs to not be pro-anorexia.

This is mostly C&Ped from a Facebook group I just made. Props to jencallisto for keeping me in the know, as well as in the relevant links.  The fact that I'm making it a public post might tell you something about just how pissed off this made me.

INTERNET!!1!

Seriously, just because LJ won't step in to stop people from hurting themselves and from encouraging others to hurt themselves doesn't make LJ (or 6apart) evil, merely disinterested. While both the pro-anorexia communities and the larger "let's hurt ourselves to be cool!" meme have to die horrible flaming deaths, LJ gets to keep being LJ specifically because they only step in to enforce things when there is criminal activity.

Also, LJ employees collectively are retarded, just like any other largish group of people.

Relaaaax. Or at least take your fight to the pro-anorexia people directly.

If it's criminal to assist suicides when people are terminally ill, I don't really see much of a difference.

I definitely agree that if LJ is going to impose any standards beyond "nothing illegal," pro-anorexia journals should be among the very first on the firing line.

I don't give them any money anyway, though...

*nod* get rid of the pro-ana groups AND the faux-kiddie-pr0n groups under the same standard. yahoo groups had a similar but quieter groups purge along the morality lines back in the day, but apparently not much of a stink was raised, as they slapped adult-only checks on everything of that nature.

Is this post deliberately unlocked? You lock all your posts, so I haven't seen any since I friended you (I'm Elliot, btw).

Yes, it was deliberate.

But Sandra, why worry about little things like people killing themselves or others, when such trivial matters pale in comparison to the evils of fictitious SEX???!!!!

(hey, if the MPAA says so, it must be true, right?)
