I've got Krasinski, Clooney and men in tight pants - 3 ingredients for a great movie.

So I went and saw "Leatherheads" tonight and I have to say that although I don't see it winning any Dundies or Oscars this year, it was pretty great.  Of course, it had a lot going for it -- John Krasinski, George Clooney, great dialogue, John Krasinski, a solid script...and did I mention John Krasinski?

JK absolutely held his own with George ( Read more... )

Oh, good - I've been seeing mixed reviews all over the place for this movie, but seeing a big thumbs-up from a JKras fan has clinched it for me - when it comes out here [if it ever does], I will most definitely be watching it. And I hate Renée Zellwegger, so I'm making a big sacrifice here. It sounds great! :D Although with both George and John in it I'm not entirely sure how it could do any wrong - even if it absolutely no plot, watching them would be enough.

I had kind of the same thought when I went to go see it even knowing it had mixed reviews. Now that I've seen it and had a chance to re-read some of the good and bad reviews, I kind of get it. I think what it boils down to is that you think it is a good homage to those '40's screwball comedies or you don't. There were things I read in one review that were cited as being problematic (scene framing, odd cuts, etc.) that in another review would be precisely the same things that were being praised for making it feel authentic to the period and the style. Go figure. I will say though that I adored some of the indoor lighting -- it was really lovely and flattering even on puckermouth Zellweger ( ... )
