French, French, French...

When my French teacher asked me if I wanted to help this sixteen-year-old with his homework etc, I was very happy and flattered (I consider it quite a compliment, and it's definitely good for me to get something to do) but also a bit nervous... We all know that my French is far from perfect, but if my teacher believes that I can be helpful, okay ( Read more... )

Ah! But that is wonderful o_cornelia October 24 2010, 21:06:54 UTC
One of the beautiful things about teaching someone while you're still learning yourself is that for some reason you will start learning faster too. Have you ever found that?
I don't know why it works that way but it seems to always be true. Especially anything you have a hard time with will probably start improving. It is one of those little magic things. I hope you'll get to enjoy it.

And congratulations on the job too of course.

Yes, I can imagine that's true. It's very helpful to study together with someone, and I think of this as a kind of combination of teaching/studying. I don't know everything, so I will have to look up things to make sure that we both get it right. :)

And thank you!

I am sure you will be able to help the boy.
But I know what you mean about the talking/writing difference!
When I made my video for my LJ months ago,I totally had to stop and think before every sentence I said because I never really get to practice talking in English, compared to writing :(

Yes, I hope so. Thank you!

Yes, writing is so easily done on the internet. Before I found LJ, I hadn't been writing in English for several years - not since school, really, except for some shorter blog comments here and there - so I felt very rusty and insecure. But now I feel that I can express pretty much every thought I have (I mean, when I can't, I find some other way of saying it, and I'm sure I make mistakes, but no one tells me...) in writing, but yes; I feel awkward when I, rarely, get a chance to talk to someone! Also, the dictionary is only a mouse click away when I'm on LJ... The only time I feel good about speaking English is when I can't express myself in French (like this spring in Germany) and then English is so much safer and more comfortable! But of course, then it does not feel so good anyway, because if i could somehow transfer all my knowledge of English into French, then maybe I would ( ... )
