The two leaders lay quietly together in the Admiral’s rack, listening to the low hum of the Galactica as she continued to keep herself moving. As Laura snuggled closer to Bill’s chest, his fingers gliding up and down her spine, she replaced the hum of the ship with the constant thumping of his heart. Her hand rested comfortably against his chest, fingers gradually becoming entwined in the cold chain of his dog tags. “You okay?” She asked quietly as he let their book rest against his stomach.

“Mmm yeah...” He muttered slowly.

“You stopped reading,” She pointed out, moving her head to rest her chin on his shoulder. “What are you thinking about?”

Turning his head to look directly into her eyes, he smiled sadly. “My mother,” He replied huskily, his fingers stopping to rest comfortably against her lower back. “She bought this book for me.”

Laura closed her eyes and lay her head back down on his shoulder. They’d never spoken really spoken about his mother and sister, beyond the fact that they’d died in a train bombing on his birthday. “That’s why you’ve never finished it...” She whispered softly.

“That’s why it’s my favourite.”

“It’s my favourite because it was my mother’s favourite,” Laura said softly. “She read it a few years before I was born. Once, before she died, she told me she met this boy while she was reading it for the first time. His mother had given him the book for his birthday but he hadn’t touched it because she’d died. So every time she read it, she thought of that boy.”

“At a Pyramid game...?” He asked slowly, frowning as she sat up to look at him.

“How did you know that?”

He stopped to study her carefully, trying to remember the woman he’d met as a child. As he thought about the way Laura laughed, and admired the deep green of her eyes, he tried to work out how he missed it. “I was the boy,” He told her honestly, studying her closely. “During half time, I heard a woman laughing behind me. It reminded me of my mother’s laugh. You laugh like that.” He reached his hand up, resting it against her cheek and gently running his thumb over her perfect skin. She was the most beautiful woman in the Universe, and she was all his.

“You met my mother,” Laura smiled softly, tears appearing in the corners of her eyes as she thought about it. She moved to lie on top of him, needing to feel all of him against all of her, resting her head in the crook of his neck as her hand ran up and down his bare arm. “You met my mother. She talked about that little boy when she was teaching me to read, and it was you.” She pressed her lips against his collarbone firmly, lingering there a moment before laying her head against him again.

“I barely remember her,” He whispered, beginning to gently run his hand up and down her spine again. “But your laugh, your eyes... it was two minutes when I was eleven years old, but I still don’t know how I missed it.”

“It’s good to know...” She said quietly, pushing herself up to look in his eyes.

He frowned slightly, not really sure what she meant. “Good to know what?”

Laura leaned down, the hair from her wig falling down around them, and kissed him gently. “It’s good to know,” She repeated against his lips, her eyes searching his with a bright smile hidden in their depths. Her hand ran though his hair and she softly rubbed the tip of her nose against his. “...that my mother would have approved.”
