Title: ...loop
Poet: Umi-chii
Primary tool: Gummi bears
A/N: The original draft was titled as maple leaf, prompted by LM.C's song of the same title. But due to disturbing, short pointless IMs, the idea flew out of the window, so I have to let my subconscious do the writing again. The yellow brick road was the first one to appear, and soon, references from the Wizard of Oz and the Alice in Wonderland came around. Symbolism hasn't always been my forte but with this one? I think I've blurred the line now, between figuratively and literally. This is to be used as an entry for the school's 2008-2009 English Poetry Contest.
...loop
Down the yellow brick road I blithely go,
With Dorothy and Toto, you’ll never know.
But lo and behold, down this trail so old,
A ramshackle man I saw and asked,
“Why, ol’ sire, the angry mask?”
Naught an attention he gave to try,
Yet I could hear that blasted, poignant cry.
But on I go along in my bright, merry way,
Away from the fray that is terribly gray
That is quite loud like the Wizard’s “Nay!”
Then with a start, I gave a yelp of “Crap!”
As my brick road vanished in a snap.
“Good gracious, how terribly vicious!”
I wailed as a flighty, white rabbit hopped
Down my new muddy road of flop.
Yet on I trudge along the earthy path
With walls of crescent smiles from that cat
Whose grin sent shivers down my skin.
Yet up I stare like a lost, little girl,
At those purple stripes in a swirl.
“You can go this way and that way,
But I must say it cannot be your way.”
He cooed as I ran in fright from the woods,
That singsong voice unlike the Queen
Ahead of me screaming out her spleen.
Red roses that are now a terrible wreck
That nearly sent an ax over my dear neck,
Oh, how I wish for the twister to come back,
Or at least just a door and its round crack
So I could go home and out of this living tome,
If it means to face reality without a rickety lace.
