Fannish5: Kickass Female Characters

Sep 04, 2010 14:54

I have the feeling I did this once before, but no time to check, plus what the hell, it's always fun to rave about the women. Qualification: I'm choosing to interpret as referring to females who can do the kicking of the aforementioned backside both literally and figuratively. So ladies who could rule the universe by force of personality, ( Read more... )

I adore River Song. (and I adore whoever dared cast an older actress in the role. She needed that age and weight of experience to balance the Doctor)

She did. A younger actress probably would never have been able to have the same impact.

Don't really know Abigail Brand very well, my dips into the Marvel universe tend to be focused on a particular character and so far it hasn't been her. Can I have Jessica Jones instead? Someone who knows when to walk away from being a superhero, good with kids, and kick-ass when the need arises.

Jessica Jones would have been on my list had it not been limited to five. She's great!

It is tragic and ridiculous that I have only ever encountered River Song from the women on your list! (To which I add brava, bravissima!) I am so interested to see what happens when she shows up next--will we get an episode in which Amy remember her but she hasn't yet met Amy?

It is clearly time to bump Terminator up in my Netflix queue; I've so far missed SCC out of a sense I have to work through the story chronologically.

The image of Xena as a precursor to Angel might make my head explode...but in a good way.

Xena and Angel: it's even more apparant if you're familiar with AtS and Xena's episodes in Hercules. Both characters weren't meant as leads and were originally rather one or two dimensional in their original show. Both got really fleshed out in their spin-offs. Said spin-offs, in both cases, were billed as the darker version of the 'verse presented in the original parent show. Both leads fit the dark-haired former villain (and no misunderstood harmless thief type of villain, but really slaughter-happy supervillain) on quest for redemption, occasional falling off the wagon, has episodes of brooding type ( ... )

I adore this list.

Also? Xena. She was undoubtedly the most awesome thing about my childhood. (I was Xena for Halloween when I was ten. I made my own chakram out of aluminium foil.)

You sound like the coolest kid. Aluminium Foil Chakram for the win! I was still stuck in boring princess costumes at that age...

:D My parents were a bit oO but I was all "I WANNA BE XENA >:O" so they obliged. The costume was a bit big for me but I didn't even care. And it had a sword. I'd gone through so many toy swords I cannot even tell you.
