Reading: Parker J. Palmer, "The Courage To Teach"

As the title says, I've been reading this book about teaching, and the psychology and spirituality of teaching as more than just a job. Parts of it read a little like a self-help book, parts of it read like some kind of inspirational email that gets sent around high school faculties - but parts of it are really, really useful in clarifying to ( Read more... )

It's available for Kindle, which is how I'm reading it. I'm not sure about other forms of e-publishing.

That sounds really interesting...

Speaking of the courage to teach, you might also want to check out this book. We read selections from it out loud as part of the "closing ceremony" for the undergrad education course I audited last semester.

It's a fantastic selection - and it makes great re-reading alongside Palmer's book, which is what I'm doing.

Although, the most spine-tingling recitation that day wasn't from Teaching with Fire - one of my classmates who had a musical theater background sang "Children will Listen" from Into the Woods. It was amazing and relevant in that way that crawls across the back of your neck like a ghost. I'm going to have to learn that song myself.

I adore that song. I could really take or leave the rest of the musical, but that song is one of my favorite in all of Broadway.
