Chapter Fourteen - Guilt

Jaejoong woke up to the first light of morning sun that streamed into his room through the opened blinds.  He had forgotten to close them last night.

He sat up on his bed, and rubbed his eyes.  “Time to prepare breakfast,” he mumbled as he dragged himself to the kitchen, a heavy feeling settled deep in his stomach.

He stopped when he heard sizzling sounds coming from the kitchen.  Someone was up, and was in the kitchen, making breakfast.  Could it be…?

“Yu-Yunho…” Jaejoong blinked.  “I didn’t know you could cook,” he added, looking down at the floor.

Yunho turned when he heard Jaejoong’s voice.  He quickly turned off the stove, and walked over to him.  “No, I can’t, actually.  So you better finish up to make them edible.”

“Yeah…” Jaejoong smiled weakly and walked over to the stove.

“Jae…” Yunho started.  “…nothing.”

“Yunho…” Jaejoong called before Yunho walked out of the kitchen.  “You didn’t find him, did you?”

Yunho looked at Jaejoong critically.  “No, I didn’t,” he shook his head dejectedly.  “But I… did find the flashlight he was using near the cliff…”

“I see,” Jaejoong nodded and turned the stove on, continuing from where Yunho had left off.  “Thank you for telling me.  Can you please tick number four on the small note I kept near the sink?”

“Sure.”

Yunho walked out of the room, and closed the door behind him, leaning on it as he sighed audibly.  “I’m so sorry…”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Good morning, hyung,” Junsu greeted as he walked into the dining room, rubbing his eyes slightly.  “Do you need help in preparing the table?”

“Ah, no, it’s okay,” Jaejoong shook his head.  “You just stay in your seat, and I’ll serve you,” he smiled a little.

“Aw,” Junsu pouted.  “But I want to help you.  Or do you only let Yuhan-hyung stand by you?”

“Of course not,” Jaejoong shook his head.  “What made you think so?  If you really want to help me, then okay, you may.”

“I thought you were going to marry him,” Junsu scratched the back of his head.  “You two were inseparable right?  And you did everything together.”

“No,” Jaejoong shook his head again firmly.  “I-I still accept someone else to stand by me.  I just don’t want to burden anyone by asking them to help me.  I know he won’t mind, so I feel at ease.”

“Then please do feel at ease with me as well,” Junsu beamed at him.  “I don’t mind helping you out,” he said as he walked over, and took the eating utensils from the tray, then started preparing the table.

Jaejoong laughed a little.  “Then I won’t hold back on you, Junsu-ah,” he grinned.  “After you prepare the eating utensils, please take the pot of soup from the kitchen along with the bowls, and then take the grilled pork out of the oven.”

“Aish, hyung… I’m still not a slave yet~”

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“I heard the tune last night,” Yongchui said as he chewed on a piece of bread.  “Did someone…?”

The table fell silent.  Everyone looked at each other except for Jaejoong who stayed silent and continued drinking his pumpkin soup slowly.

“Yuhan-shii,” Yunho finally said as he looked at Yoochun who stared at the slight patterns on the wooden table in interest.  “He went out to fix the generator last night.”

“And he didn’t return…” Yoochun mumbled.

“Oh,” Changsun and Yongchui mouthed at the same time.

“I’m sorry,” Yongchui said as he looked at Jaejoong.

“I… I’m sorry too,” Changsun added.

Jaejoong looked at them, and smiled a little.  “You don’t have to be.  It’s not your fault,” he said.  “It’s no one’s fault, really.”

“Ah…” Junsu cleared his throat.  “Let’s finish the breakfast quickly so we can all go on with whatever we want to do,” he suggested.

Jaejoong nodded in agreement.  “I also have to wash the dishes, and prepare the lunch,” he added.

“Okay,” the others agreed, and continued eating in silence, as no one dared to speak.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Junsu?” Yunho called as he walked into Junsu’s room.  “May I ask you something?”

“Yes?  What is it?” Junsu sat up on his bed.

“Since when have you known Yuhan?”

“Hm…” Junsu tapped his chin.  “When Jaejoong-hyung was doing something similar to internship, he met Yuhan-hyung who had just lost his father.  I think we all started knowing him since then.”

“Oh?  How long ago was that?”

“About six years ago, I assume,” Junsu shrugged.  “Sometime around that.”

“I see,” Yunho nodded.  “Thank you for telling me.”

“Hyung,” Junsu called.  “Do you like Jaejoong-hyung?”

Yunho paused at the doorway, and looked back at him with a small smile.  “It depends on your definition of like,” he answered simply.  “If it means wanting to protect him, and do anything to keep him safe and sound, then yes, I do.”

“I know I don’t need to ask you to do this, but please take care of him,” Junsu requested.

“You don’t need to ask,” Yunho replied.  “I’ve been doing that, even before now.”

“Huh?” Junsu blinked.  “What do you mean?”

“That is for me to know,” Yunho smiled mysteriously at him.  “And for you to never find out.”

End of Chapter Fourteen

I’m sorry if this chapter sounds very strange and confusing.  I did write it this way deliberately to make you wonder :D *gets whacked*

We’ll see what Yunho meant later :3
