Chapter Fifteen - Anything for You
I'd still do anything for you
I'll play your game
You can have your way
I will do anything at all, as long as you’re happy.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“You look great Su,” Jaejoong complimented as he saw Junsu walking into his changing room.
Everyone who performed for the concert night was all given a changing room. If they performed in a group, then the group had to share a room.
“Thank you,” Junsu grinned as he walked over to Jaejoong. He was wearing a pinkish shirt, black dress pants, and a dark blue suit. “You look nice too.”
Jaejoong chuckled. “Thank you,” he nodded. He was wearing a sky blue short-sleeved shirt, dark blue trousers, and a neat dark brown coat with glitters here and there.
“Umh, but I’m worried,” Junsu finally said as he sat in front of Jaejoong and held his hand. “I heard you asked your companion to be allowed to play back stage.”
“Yes, that’s true,” Jaejoong nodded. “What’s wrong?”
“Well… when the audience can’t see who plays the music, they tend to get suspicious,” Junsu bit his bottom lip. “They tend to think the singer is lip-syncing.”
“Ah, I’ve heard of that,” Jaejoong sighed. “Well, I don’t want to burden anyone. It’s up to them what they think. As long as you guys know I don’t, I don’t mind.”
“Why don’t you ask Yunho-hyung to play on stage?” Junsu frowned.
“He doesn’t want to, Su,” Jaejoong shook his head. “I already forced him to play for me. I don’t want to force him to do anything else.”
“I know, but…”
“Don’t worry about that,” Jaejoong smiled at him. “It’s your turn soon, right? You should go meet Yoochun, and Yehsung and Ryeowook to prepare yourself.”
“Okay,” Junsu stood up, and patted Jaejoong’s shoulder. “But please consider what I said. I want everyone to acknowledge you, not suspect you.”
“I know Su,” Jaejoong smiled at him. “Thank you.”
“I’ll see you later then,” Junsu grinned at him. “Put up a great show for all of us, okay?”
“Yes, of course,” Jaejoong nodded, and watched Junsu leave the room.
“I better get ready as well…”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Hey Jae,” Yoochun called as he walked backstage after Junsu’s performance. “I’m sorry about-“
“It’s okay, Chun,” Jaejoong shook his head. “You want to be a pianist. I’m proud you’re actually participating in recitals now,” he added, smiling widely.
“Yes, I guess,” Yoochun nodded. “Thank you. And good luck.”
“Good luck to you too,” Jaejoong smiled and waved at him as he walked off to the parking lot.
“Hey hyung,” Changmin called as he approached Jaejoong with Seulgi behind him. “Are you ready?”
“More or less,” Jaejoong answered. “You guys got good seats?”
“Oh, you don’t know how good,” Changmin grinned. “We got the second row.”
“Really? That’s great!”
“Yup. Oh, anyway, it’s your turn in ten minutes. It’s the opera show part one right now. You better go get ready,” Changmin advised.
“And we will return to our seats,” Seulgi added. “We’re right in front of you, so you better perform well.”
“Of course,” Jaejoong waved at them. “See you later.”
The two waved back and walked to the auditorium, going back to their seats.
He walked to the backstage, and paused. “Hey,” he called to one of the member of the committee who was passing by. “Where is the piano? I thought it was supposed to be here.”
The girl looked at the spot he was motioning at, and her mouth formed an ‘o’. “The young pianist, whoever it was, asked it to be moved on stage.”
“Huh?” Jaejoong looked taken aback. “Oh… erm, thank you,” he quickly bowed at her, and went in search of Yunho. He spotted him at a corner talking to Donghae, and quickly approached.
“Hey Jae,” Donghae greeted when he saw him approaching.
“Hey,” Jaejoong greeted back with a smile, and turned to look at Yunho. “Why is it moved?” he frowned. “I thought you told me you don’t want to be seen.”
“I don’t,” Yunho confirmed. “But I don’t want anyone to doubt you because of that either.”
“Wha-you heard?” Jaejoong blinked.
“I did,” Yunho nodded. “Don’t worry about it. I figured, no one really knows me anyway.”
Donghae laughed. “Yunho’s only insecure,” he grinned as he patted Jaejoong’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Insecure?”
“Yep,” Donghae confirmed. “His father wants him to study law while he wants to be a pianist at first. He doesn’t want anyone to tell his father he’s playing piano, but I’m sure his father won’t mind if he’s helping someone out.”
“I didn’t know,” Jaejoong sighed. “I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”
“You’re not listening to me,” Donghae complained.
“I’m sure my father won’t mind,” Yunho shrugged. “That’s why Junsu asked you to ask me.”
“I sure hope so,” Jaejoong nodded.
“Well, you better go get ready then,” Donghae patted the two of them. “Your turn is in two minutes.”
“Okay!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Jaejoong walked up on stage, followed closely by Yunho who quickly went over to the black piano near the corner. Jaejoong walked up, and bowed at the audience.
I don’t know what I’m supposed to say
When love suddenly you feel so far away
But you’re not prepared to take
And if you’re now afraid to listen
I don’t want to do this anymore
Oh, I don't know which way that I should turn
Since the more we love the more we have to learn
Well, I keep staring into space
Like it somehow has the answer
So don't let the music end, oh my darling
Symphony, it's gone quiet around us now
How I wish you would hold me
And that you never told me
That it's better if you leave
Look at the sun, we're starting to lose all of our light
When we once burned so brightly
Tell me, remind me
We're throwing it away
Oh, you don't know what you've got until it's gone
But then nothing ever hurt like holding on
I am scared not prepared
And I feel like I am falling
So can you tell me where did we go wrong?
Symphony, it's gone quiet around us now
How I wish you would hold me
And that you never told me
That it's better if you leave
If everything is broken
And it's better that we give up
Oh, remember how we once had
Something beautiful
Symphony, it's gone quiet around us now
How I wish you would hold me
And that you never told me
That it's better if you leave
Look at the sun, we're starting to lose all of our light
When we once burned so brightly
Tell me, remind me
We're throwing it away
He finished, and as soon as the music ended, the audience stood up to applaud and cheer. He smiled at them, and bowed again before walking down stage. He was thankful for those lessons in opera singing.
“Yunho?” he asked. “Where are you going?”
“Outside,” Yunho said simply.
“I’ll come with you.”
They walked out to the backyard, and sat on a bench right behind the auditorium.
“Thank you,” Yunho said after they sat in silence for a few minutes.
“Huh?” Jaejoong looked up at him. “It should be me thanking you, not the other way around!”
“I’m just thankful that I can play the piano again, and in front of a lot of people,” Yunho explained, shaking his head. “You gave me a reason to. Thank you.”
“Oh. You’re welcome, I guess…” Jaejoong mumbled. “I-“
Suddenly, his cell phone rang.
“Yeoboseyo?”
“Hyung! Where are you!?”
“Eh… I’m outside right now.”
“Wait there, I’m coming.”
“Okay.”
Yunho laughed a little. “I guess I should be going now then,” he said as he got up. “See you.”
“Yeah… see you,” Jaejoong waved at him, and once he was out of sight, sigh in disappointment.
