[Mithos has been back from his brief tangle with death for a day now, and with his journal now in his possession once more, it seems very necessary to call on the only person who he can call 'friend'. Times like these call for support, and not just because he's lost function in one leg. Unable to live on his own in this condition, he finds himself in a...less than ideal living situation. He doesn't know; he really just doesn't know. But speaking with Kaori always helps...]

Kaori, it's me... I just wanted to talk. [It feels like it's been too long. He wonders if she was alright while he was gone.]

[Frey looks up from the journal at the call of his name, eyes wide. Oh.

She was back. Had she heard....? It didn't matter. He'd said nothing he regretted. And he couldn't exactly close the journal on the other now.]

Welcome back, Kaori. You forgot your journal.

[...She's there? Why does this seem....? It doesn't make any sense. He's gripping his journal way more tightly than necessary; hoping she can hear him, he calls out.]

Kaori?! Kaori!

[She hears him all right. For a moment she freezes again, her mind reeling from being able to hear Mithos' voice again. She's been so worried and couldn't find him at all during the last few weeks, it almost led her to believe that the worst had happened, that he... had returned to his world, where he was gone.

All these emotions swirled by in less time than it would take to blink, and before she even realizes the extent of them she is walking forward, nearly charging toward the older man with her teeth clenched and expression clearly livid. Frey wasn't supposed to know about him, she was going to protect him in all the ways she could, and if that meant hiding her friendship with Mithos so be it, but she would not allow for Frey to separate them if she could avoid it.]

Give that to me!

[The surprise at her yell was obvious as his eyes widen. His grip loosens on the journal, but he doesn't drop it just yet. She was upset. Very, very upset. So.....

.....She really cared for him, didn't she? But Mithos would hurt her. There was no avoiding it. Eventually, eventually he would. Still, Frey couldn't force her to avoid him. He couldn't take that choice from her and never would. It wasn't like with Lymsleia, who was still a child. He'd have to do his best to protect her indirectly.

She might feel the sadness, the worry for her and slight resignation as he stands and holds the journal out.] Here. You have my apologies for taking the call.

[As soon as the journal is in her hands there will be a barrage of worried questions. His heart is pounding tensely - what is she doing there with him?]

Kaori, are you alright? Did he hurt you? Why are you-- What's going on?

[Without a word she takes the journal from Frey, almost a little too aggressively, but she couldn't control herself from showing how upset she was that he had been the one to answer it. All she knew of any interaction between Mithos and Frey was back in that draft in the jungle, where they had struggled to fight off all that Third Party... and things hadn't ended well. Her lips are set in a tight line to try to keep them from trembling, but it would prove to be a fruitless effort once she holds it properly in her hands.]

I'm right here. [Her voice cracks just a little when she words that, that familiar stinging moistness returning to her eyes just knowing that he's still here in the village. Had he gone home - no, had he returned to that place that didn't want him, where he wouldn't wake up again... she didn't know what she would do. That thought alone is what makes her waver and nearly start crying right then and there.]

Where have you been...? I thought...

[She looked like she was about to cry. What had happened? She spoke as if....

He shouldn't be here. She didn't want him here, and obviously he'd grossly underestimated this situation. So he turns, heading out the front door and quietly making an exit to give her... time with Mithos.

The very idea is counterproductive, but he hasn't a clue what he can do about any of this anymore. He won't be back to the house until dark at least, so she'll have plenty of time to talk to him.]

[A tinge of relief as she takes the journal, and he can see her snapshot clearly in the frame. But it doesn't fill up all the empty spaces left by uncertainty. More of his questions die on his tongue when she asks that, though.]

I was... [He almost can't tell her; her reaction when she found out that he had been killed in his world is imprinted clearly in his memory. He doesn't want her to worry about him too much... But it's unavoidable, isn't it? He...can't hide it from her... Softly, but with obvious underlying anger and resentment:] Yuan killed me.

[He feels like he's holding his breath in, waiting for her to respond. Dreading, worrying.]

[Killed.

Killed.

Someone had killed Mithos.

That single word echoes over and over in her head, each time pushing back her previous fear and replacing it with a dose of venomous anger. Who would have dared-]

Tell me about him. Now.

He's one of my former companions, and nothing but a worthless traitor. He betrayed me, and he betrayed Martel, even though they were engaged to be wed.

[Sickening. Repulsive. But.....had Yuan really betrayed Martel, when the things he, Mithos, had done for her sake did not truly follow her wishes...? Had the one to betray Martel been--? The thought is quiet enough to be drowned out by his loathing and rage, but it still hangs there for a brief moment like a sour note.]

['Engaged to be wed.' If there was one fast way to get on Kaori's ill side immediately, it was to betray someone whom you had promised yourself to. That person had entrusted you with everything, and to throw it all away in such a matter... Someone like that didn't deserve to know peace.]

How could he...?

[because it isn't what Martel wanted... Then the question turns to...how could Yuan stand the thought of never seeing her again? If he loved her, how could he let go? Why was he the only one to completely fall apart, all alone? Because he's weak...

...well that just about derails his anger. He can't keep it burning through the uncertainty.]

...I don't know.

[Even without being there she can feel the uncertainty, the same way he had been when they first met and they had started to open up without meaning to. And she had sworn before that she would be there for him if he needed her, and that's what it sounded like now.]

... Hey, Mithos? Do you want me to come see you? [Though... she has never been told where he lives or stays. How would she be able to find him without risking exposing that he's returned to that awful man?]

[Yes, his heart answers immediately for him. Yes, he wants that badly. Sayo has shown him kindness, but his distrust leaves him deeply uncomfortable despite it. He needs comfort, any little scrap.

But... His mind races back to all of the questions he hasn't asked yet. The uncertainty is only getting worse.]

Kaori.....can I ask you something first?

Of course you can, Mithos. [And she has every intention of answering him honestly, just as she always has with every conversation they have had as far as she is aware.]
