I was trying to make that connection to original sin, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. That is definitely what the argument feels like sometimes. There has been some discussion by white people in debunkingwhite (I lurk and don't post) that sounds curiously like religious navel-gazing. I don't want to go further on that lest I snark. If I'm onto something I'm sure other people will have noticed it.

I'm unclear on the history of the current movement -- is Joseph Barndt with his Catholic background actually the originator of the strategies we're talking about? Were they designed with the original-sin model in mind or is this coincidence/later influence?
