It is a holiday after all

Perhaps the three margarita lunch wasn't the best idea before I need to apply fingernail polish for the first time ever.

Maybe a nap is in order first?

Any tips on how to apply this stuff with a minimum of issues?

cocktails, holidays

It's important to wipe some of the polish off the brush (on the rim of the bottle) before applying, so you get a thin coat. Too thick of a coat and it'll be globby and peel off easily! If it's too sheer after one coat, apply another thin coat after it dries.

A separate base coat and top coat are helpful, but not necessary.

Oh, and Q-tips dipped in nail-polish remover are very handy for cleaning up any polish that lands outside the nail borders. I have shaky hands, so they're mandatory!

I've been doing it for years and still can't manage. Good luck.

First time?

put down paper in case you drip.

First stroke in the middle of the nail, in case you've got too much on the brush, and fill out sideways. Start at the cuticle and brush down to the tip.

have nail polish remover handy to tidy up any blobs.

Unless you're joking about the never applied nail polish before thing.

Have someone else do it for you. :-)

I suck at it and always end up with weird globs -- could be why I don't usually wear it. Or invariably I have at least one finger mark or smudge that I don't remember getting. Because the damn stuff looks dry and even feels dry...but it isn't.

It's dry when it doesn't smell like nail polish anymore.
