96) Author's choice: graceful secundus_cast August 13 2012, 02:31:46 UTC
Time: Post-"Secundus 2"
Notes: More kid-fic! And another one focusing on one of the lesser-seen kids, Victoria's daughter Mabel. I have an idea that she loves dancing, so this evolved out of that. And yes, Vincent does end up marrying her.

It was the way she moved that first got his attention - the way she seemed to glide through life, so light on her feet. She never seemed to stumble, never put a foot wrong. She dodged obstacles with grace and dignity. It was like she danced through her life.
He found himself watching her, noticing things about her he’d never seen before. How pretty her face really was. How melodious her voice sounded when she laughed. How seeing her smile made something melt inside him.
Almost before he knew it, Vincent Van Dort found himself completely smitten with Mabel Lloyd.

Time: Post-climax of "Secundus," pre-wedding
Notes: Okay -- all I really wanted to do was to write something else featuring Victor's parents. This idea just wouldn't leave me alone. I've mentioned in other fic how Victor's final break with his parents came during a post-Touched meeting at a coffee shop, where Nell said that she wanted Victor "fixed," and brought up the old Baron Wulfenbach (for those of you unfamiliar with "Girl Genius," the elder Wulfenbach studies the Spark (what makes a mad scientist a mad scientist) via removing sections of the brain of Sparky people (typically dangerous ones, but still. . .)). My previous fic on this subject has been all about the aftermath (well, except for the bit where she insulted Alice). I think it's about time you saw the actual incident ( ... )

Time: Post-"Secundus," a little while after 16) popsicle
Notes: And now my little "Victor invents frozen treats" thing becomes a trilogy! This is a follow up to 74) woman's lips holding an ice cube and 16) popsicle. Victor has learned to improve upon his treat! Unfortunately, he misses out on a real money-making opportunity. Poor guy.

“Okay, I hear there’s a new twist on the whole ‘fruit juice and ice cubes’ thing?”
“There is!” Victor proudly presented Marty with what looked like a cup of colored slush. “If you crush the ice cubes, you get something like a drink! It’s much nicer than the ice cubes themselves - less chance of developing painful cold spots in your mouth.”
Marty took a sip. It was nice - cool and refreshing. “You ought to find a way to mass produce this,” he commented. “You’d probably make a fortune.”
“On something that can only be sold in the summer? I doubt it.”

Notes: This could be considered a bit of a follow-up to 96) Author's choice: graceful -- I wanted to do a bit more on Mabel's dancing. And I wanted to have Victoria teasing Emily about her daughter getting something from her best friend. If only because I could see canon!Victoria doing something much the same about her kids with canon!Victor.

“She’s so light on her feet! She reminds me of a dandelion seed on the wind.”
Victoria nodded, watching her daughter practicing her dancing. “She’s quite talented, isn’t she?” Then she smiled and nudged her friend. “She gets that from you.”
“What, are you suggesting I’m secretly the mother of your daughter?” Emily teased.
“You tell me. We all know how you love dancing in the moonlight.”
“Yes, but Mabel is dancing in the sunlight. Big difference.”
“Oh yes, huge.” The two women giggled. “But she definitely gets her grace from you.”
“Thankfully she didn’t also get the skeletal limbs.”

9) cabana secundus_cast August 19 2012, 17:54:24 UTC
Time: Post-"Secundus," Emily and Richard's honeymoon
Notes: I wasn't sure what to do with this one until I looked it up. Upon discovering you could have a cabana with cloth sides, one that looked like a hat seemed an obvious choice for Richard and his bride. So they get a beach honeymoon like Victor and Alice -- though, obviously, they went somewhere with "build-your-own" cabanas. Maybe a little tropical island? Hmmm...

“Oh Richard. . . .”
“What?” Richard pouted. “Don’t you like it?”
“Oh no, it’s fantastic,” Emily assured her new husband, trying to keep her giggles to a minimum. “You did a wonderful job setting it up.” Her eyes traveled over the odd little hut Richard had constructed, with its colorful drapes and flat roof. “I’ve just - I’ve never seen a cabana shaped like a top hat before.”
“A first time for everything,” Richard grinned. “To be honest, once I had the cloth in my hands, I just went into that mode.”
Emily giggled again, then snuggled up against him. “It’s wonderful. Thank you.”
