I was talking to Deb the other day about my Fakesgiving dinner and mentioned I was having cooked celery and Deb was underwhelmed with that choice of veg. I mentioned that celery water makes the best gravy (it's true!) but on any given big dinner I'd take celery above pretty much any other green veg. I'm not a massive celery fan but I don't hate it. I'll use it in soups, salads and casseroles. I can't think of any situation in which I'd prefer it as a cooked side dish to fennel which, generally speaking, I like rather more.

Cooked celery by itself is evil. In a mirepoix it's great. If it's in my chicken soup and can't be avoided, I live with it. Ditto in Chinese food.

While I would never bring celery into my house (there are a million things I would choose first), I will eat raw celery if it is (a) the only available crudite, and (b) either simply salted or has peanut butter on it.

I'll eat it pretty much any way. Not that I can't live without it, but I like it well enough. Never had it as a cooked veg on its own, but given how I like with other stuff I must try it. Hmmm, my standby for veg is zapped or sautéed in butter. *wonders*
