Come! Play with me!

It is raining outside! We are in quite a drought here -- my parents are worrying about their well running dry -- so the pattering of the rain is a beautiful sound indeed.

The HP folks on my flist have probably already seen this, but just in case: cluegirl recently asked an incredibly evil question. You have a prophetic dream that in twenty four hours, ( Read more... )

I'm truly honoured (and quite possibly giddy) that one of my stories made the list. Thank you.

Thank YOU for writing it! ♥♥

I see you're refraining from making your own list. Too stressful? ;-)

Hee! I know what you mean. It's a good thing fanfic won't actually be disappearing any time soon. :-D

So why QAF? You said the other day that mostly you seek out QAF. I watched all the episodes and enjoyed the show, but to me it's the quintessential show that doesn't need fic. Because the show took care of all that. (Also, as I was saying on Lee's post about RPS, I'm not really attracted to fandoms that are just set on plain old normal Earth - I need something magic or fantastic or sci-fi to hook me - otherwise it's just too vanilla.) But aside from that as that's clearly personal taste, why do you want fic for QAF? Is it about making sure B and J do end up together? Something less romantic? Tying up loose ends? AUs? Am I totally off? Maybe the fic urge is unexplainable because it's just love and you can't really explain the whys of that, no matter how many reasons you label.

It's interesting to me, because I have been watching sci fi and fantasy, and reading it, literally all my life. My dad was a huge sci fi fan, and I practically cut my teeth on it. I was a huge Star Trek fan, and a fan of Xena, and of lots of books and shows that have huge, active fandoms that write tons and tons of fanfic.

And yet, never, ever in my life, not once, despite the fact that I'm 48 and a professional writer, have I ever wanted to write in someone else's world until QAF.

It had nothing to do with "fixing" the ending -- if any ending ever needed "fixing" it was the ending of Xena, and it never crossed my mind to write a story doing that. I just never felt obsessed and inspired and like I simply HAD TO write until this show.

Weird how different people are, eh?

I almost didn't post this because I'm having an unbelievable sulking fit that I didn't make secretsolitaire's fic list. It's possible I won't be able to keep writing, and then I'll have to blame her. ;)

Aack! *prostrates self at your feet* Please don't stop writing! The fandom will lynch me! And I'll never get to see how Families turns out! D-:

In all seriousness, the Plans universe (yes, it counts as one fic for my purposes, lalalala) is my #11. Whenever I feel wibbly over 513, it's one of the first places I turn for comfort. I angsted quite a bit over this list, and yours was one of several fics I felt dreadful about leaving out. Forgive me? :-/

Pffft, I was just joking! Virtually my entire top ten is bigboobedcanuck so I'm in good company. ;)

I don't have a top ten list, but it's interesting to me that you have THREE reunion fics on yours!!! I can't bear reunion fics, they hurt me almost like death!fic! I have read all three of those you have on your list and they literally tear me to pieces in a very bad way. They're very good stories, I just hate how they made me feel. If you know what I mean.

In addition to almost everything bbc wrote, as well as ragingpixie and burnitbackwards, I tend to think that "Fairy Dust" is the best fic ever written in this fandom. "Framed" is quite brilliant, by plumsuede. My own story "Decisions" is on my own list. I think it's the best thing I've written. "Fly" by luceononuro. "Blissed" by valerie z.

I also have a couple of cracky favorites.... hideously OOC though it is, I adore "New Years" or as I call it, blindfolded!escort!Justin. I've read it around forty million times.

There are many other fics I love, but I don't really have a top ten, as it depends on my mood and the time of year.

Wow, hadn't even noticed that. I guess in addition to hurt/comfort I also have a reunion kink! I can understand why it hurts you to read those fics; it actually hurts me a bit to read them as well. But as Brian would say, "that's part of it" (for me at least). The happy ending seems so much sweeter when it comes after a separation because they appreciate each other so much more, and they've had some time to grow up a bit and figure things out. Also, there's such pure, intense joy when you reunite with someone after being apart for a long time -- it's sort of like an all-new honeymoon period, isn't it? (Hunh. I'm pretty much describing the reasons I adore 308 and the whole arc leading up to it. *g*)

I totally agree with you on "Fly" -- OMG, one of my favorite bits of porny love ever. And yes, burnitbackwards! "Raw" is another one that would be in the low teens on my list.

Yes, alicesprings and happierbunny love the reunion fics. They say just what you do, that the pain makes the sweetness sweeter. It just kills me, LOL.

As to a link to blindfolded!escort!Justin (see icon), have you never seen my Ode to Rizabeau??? Are you in either of the qaf_crackfic communities, here or IJ? I ask because if you are, I'll link you to my post there, but if not, I'll just link you to the fic. But you should read my post first if you can. ;)

I read very little crack fic, but I have joined the IJ version of the comm just so that I can get the proper introduction to this fic. ;-)

Great list! Not sure that I have ever read Toes -- I think I went through all of Ethan's fic in a mad rush a few months back, but I don't remember that one specifically. Better go check right now. ;-)

Yes yes yes to Raw, OMG. I'm glad you saved it from doom even if I couldn't fit it onto my list! ;-) And Words, oh the porny love. Also thrilled to see flashfly on your list. I'm totally wibbly about which one of hers I like best -- Catching Fire has such wonderful dialogue and characterization, but how can I resist the lush language of Drag? And what about her drabbles? *frets*

As I said to severina2001 above, I'm glad fanfic isn't actually going anywhere anytime soon. ;-) Thanks for playing along!

I haven't reread Live Action Short in a while -- will have to do so soon!

I wasn't sure if our list could include multichaptered fics or just one shots, but put those fics in I have read the most.

Anything goes! I tend to read more one shots just because of time constraints, and also because I haven't found all that many *really* good multichaptered fics (though there are a ton of bad ones out there). Obviously xie_xie_xie's long fics are in the good pile; I'd also include Forever Changes Everything by rhiannonhero, any of the long stuff by ragingpixie or bigboobedcanuck, Growing Up Kinney by Myrna and Treading by jaded_optimism -- in addition to the severina2001 fic in my top 10 list.

LOL, this is my kind of topic. Clearly I could talk about fanfic all day. *facepalm* Thanks for indulging me!

First of all thank you for your list. I'd never read the two ficlets by wrenlet before. They are great, so thank you for reccing them!

Of those you've listed, my own top 10 list would include "A Matter of Time" by visitingagain and "Subject to Change" by soundczech. By visitingagain, I would include also "A Gleam in the Dark", her post-510 ficlet and, IMO, still the most perfect post-510 story and the only one I can honestly say I wish I'd seen instead of canon.

I love all of the fics by rhiannonhero, but the one I would choose above all is "Forever Changes Everything", which remains the most perfect reunion fiction ever written. One particular reason why adore this story is the strong, self-reliant, completly in control Justin she describes. It's the Justin I've always seen in canon, especially in S4 and S5, and crave to see in fiction.

My list would include also "Risks" and "Frost" by xie_xie_xie, and "Willow Hill, PA, Pop. 317" by flashfly. It was difficult to choose, because I worship both of these writers. They are defintely my favourites among those who are still writing ( ... )

I'm so glad you like "Risks" enough to put it on this list, but the inclusion of "Frost" literally made me explode with happiness.

They're short, almost simple really (and I mean "simple" in the good way), but I adore them. The knee-kissing slays me every time. Glad I was able to point you to something new! That seems rather rare in this fandom. :-)

Oh! Ohh! Is that this one? I never knew it had a title! (It's been in my mems for ages as "post-510 ficlet." *g*) I completely agree with you -- I'd rather have seen this than what we got in canon. I'm so glad you're saving this one ( ... )

Is that this one?

That's the one :)

you know which one I might just have to pick? The first drabble on this page. Just...guh. It's all there in that one simple image.

She's a master of words, a true writer. That drabble captures the beauty of Justin as an artist through Brian's gaze, while Brian himself "paints" Justin in his mind, thus becoming an artist in his vision of Justin. It's beautiful.

You know, the thought of reading a permanently unfinished WiP makes me kinda crazy, but...do you have a link? And does it have any sort of resolution at the end at all, or does it just leave you hanging?

The only link I have is to her LJ < myrna1_2_3. You won't find it in the memories, though. All entries are in the latest page. It is unfinished and there's no way around it. It truly breaks my heart that she never completed it. But the last entry, a teaser of chapter 9, suggests VERY CLEARLY, what the outcome will be. But we'll never know the details, so if you read it, be warned. It's post-S3, and therefore partly OOC for those of us who've ( ... )
