Thanks so much to rickey_a for the shiny glitterati sunglasses in my profile! *puts them on and attempts to look cool*

For the Star Trek folks out there, I had to share this glee-making TOS macro, which has so far made me laugh out loud five times (ie every single time I've looked at it). I found it via jlh, but I don't know who made it -- so if you do, ( Read more... )

question, thank you, rec me

As each new chapter comes up, I copy it to a word doc, with a link to the author, for later. I'll go through a phase and read a few, the rest just wait their turn.
Also, protopage
http://www.protopage.com/protopage/about
would work well, then if your system crashed, as mine did recently, you wouldn't lose your favorites/ bookmark thingies. I've got everything linked there, mail, lj, youtube stuff, just everything.
Any help?

Ooh, that's a good strategy -- that way you have the fic even if LJ goes down or an author deletes her/his journal.

That protopage thing looks very interesting -- I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the tip.

I am unfortunately one of those people who leaves it in a tab... but as a result I have 40 tabs on my firefox open at all times... for every one that I close, I seem to open another two...

After reading cards_slash's Next to You, I started hunting for more Spock/McCoy, but I haven't really come across to many that I really loved like that one:)

Also, I loved the graphic!

Haha, I do the tab thing too on a regular basis! If something sits in a tab too long, I toss it into my "Fic to Read" category in my LJ memories; otherwise I start to feel sort of haunted by it. :-P

I have bookmarked very few Spock/McCoy fics myself. It's just not a ship that normally does much for me. But I've been getting some good recs here in this post!

*cracks up*
I know just the person I'll forward this to ... *gg*

As for fics: I'm the tab-person. I tended to open lots and lots of tabs and never got around to actually read stuff. Now I try to only keep the tabs of stuff open I really intend to read.

Haha, yes, pass the crack along! :-D

I still open tons and tons of tabs. But if they start to be too much, I start dumping things into LJ memories (in a "Fic to Read" folder), so at least I don't have to look at them. I get stressed by too many tabs. :-P

I leave it open in a tab. When I have unmanageable numbers of tabs, I copy all the fic (and URLs) into a Word doc and print it out (8pt, 2 columns, no spaces, tiny margins), and it sits around my house for a while. Eventually I read it, write comments as I go, and then come back and post comments and recs. That's my current strategy, anyway.

I can't read long stuff online, and when I'm in a hurry, I can barely read short stuff either. :-)

Ah, interesting! I'm impressed that you manage to make it from the print copy back online to leave comments. That's awesome.

I'd probably go blind reading in 8pt font though, LOL. I like reading on the computer because I can jack up the font size when it's late at night and I'm all eyestrained. :-P

Posting recs is a good motivation. Also, I want to return the compliment to the lovely people who comment on my fic, so... :-)

I think that's great! I always support more comments. :-)

Thanks for sharing the macro! I'd like to know who made it too.

I bookmark stuff to read later in 3 folders - ST fic, HP fic and miscellaneous (non-fic stuff like meta, news articles or whatever). Unfortunately, I'm bad at going back, say a 20% rate, maybe even 10%? Now that I think about it - say 10% for fic-related stuff and 1% for non-fic. I have this idea that I will get everything worth keeping on my delicious account but first I have to revamp the tags and it kind of piles on.

Isn't it fun? :-D

Ah, that's a very orderly system. I dump everything I want to read into one "fic to read" pile (even if it's not fic but something else, like poetry or porn links *g*). Then I just browse around and see what I'm in the mood for. I'd say I end up reading at least 50 percent of it in the end. I always at least check it out, but if a fic's been sitting in my bookmarks for months and the first few paragraphs don't grab me, then I'm quick to dump it.
