I had never heard this song. It gives me major WTF-DISMAYED face though. I'm going to go with your first instinct, call it over-the-top-recognizes-itself-as-ridiculous-going-for-catchy-not-realistic-parody. Because the alternative makes my head hurt and I've not yet had enough coffee for that. Also mmm... lemonade and cake!
Well, there's commitment , and full-on crazy, if you get what I'm saying. It makes for a much more interesting story but I imagine is not much fun in practise.
"I would die for you - why won't you do the same?" is just... yeah.
Heh, no I'd say you're not the only one by a long stretch. I liked it much better when I though he was being ~ironic~ but I suppose that's giving him too much credit.
My sister originally thought the line was "I'd throw a grenade for you", meaning that the singer was offering to go out and kill people then kill himself by jumping in front of a train...

I'd much rather have someone with cake, who likes me a reasonable amount, not obsessed to the point of jumping in front of a train.
Also - "throw my hand on a blade for you"?? WHO SAYS THAT? Why?
