Derek hadn't know Neal. He didn't know a lot of people here, but still, Derek felt like he should show. They were all stuck in this Chicago and facing the same dangers. This could happen to any of them. Still all said... Derek really hated funerals. (Though, who really enjoyed attending one?)

The formal attire request hadn't been a problem; it was an Agent's normal dress. He had straightened it up as best he could since he had worn this suit almost everyday, though searching and vampire run ins. It helped him feel connected to his family who had to be searching for a way to find him.

He found himself looking out across the waters after taking in the funeral pyre.

Someone unfamiliar was standing out by the water. Jennifer approached him slowly, unsure of what to say.

"Excuse me...did you know Neal?"

Derek turned around when he was addressed. The Agent was at an equal loss for words, but he tried anyways. "No, just arrived here. Saw the message and thought I'd show some support for everyone stuck here."

He glanced at they pyre with the late Neal resting on it. "Hope that's all right."

"Of course it is," She replied softly, shifting the roses into her left arm to hold out her right hand.

"Thank you for coming. I'm Jennifer Walters."

As the golden fires burned and the returned sun burned away the smoke, a somber quiet descended on the beach, the only sound the gentle lapping of the waves of Lake Michigan.

Then, a melody - sweet but jarring and carrying over even the waves. It sounded mechanical and unnatural. At first, it only came from one person's pocket...and then another...and another...until all of their phones were going off at the same time, with the same music box tune.

Each phone carried the same message: OUT OUT BRIEF CANDLE

Stella took out her phone and stared at it. At first she was guilty for taking it to a funeral, but when this happened she was glad she had it on her. The melody sent shivers down her spine and she wondered what the message meant.

'Could it have been the same person who blew up the gate?' She thought, looking up at the pyre as it engulfed the body, turning it into ash.

Amber also pulled out her phone, wondering about the strangely haunting melody drifting from it. And the message...she bit her bottom lip. Shakespeare. Dr. Gorski read them excerpts from the playwright's works sometimes, and this was from...Macbeth?

But who would be so blunt as to send a message during a man's funeral, accompanied by that song?

Stella looked around the place until she glanced over at Amber. It looks like everyone here got the same message. May as well say something about it right?

"Did... did you get the same message as well?" Stella managed to ask.

The music from the phones had been haunting and quiet. Something that Jennifer took as a sign. She approached the funeral pyre and spread the rest of the flowers on top of it, doing her best to control herself. Weeping would not bring him back. Nothing natural would. She took a final moment to make sure his suit was straight, that he looked perfect, before she touched his cold hand, squeezing the fingers one more time.

"I hope you're with Kate, where ever you are now," She murmured quietly.

Leaving the pyre, she pulled one of the torches out of the metal holders in the ground. Warm flames heating her face, she turned and pushed the end of the torch into the leaves and other brush that had been piled beneath the pyre. All of it caught quickly, helped by a little lighter fluid, and she stepped back, putting the torch back, reaching up with the back of one hand to brush away a few natural tears that had come unbidden.

The tune continued, haunting and melodious over the crackle of the growing fire. It was only once the flames began to obscure the body did the song fade away to the background.

Another glimpse of their phones would reveal that melody had come from a certain number - the number that had belonged to the man currently on the pyre. The device hadn't been destroyed in the blast that had decimated Cloud Gate, another dusty relic in the park now completely made of rubble.

But that left a disturbing question: who was the mysterious sender of the message?
