On the other hand, Kaylee was both surprised and underwhelmed by the sights of Chicago. The fact that she was on Earth-That-Was brought about more questions than she could really maintain in her head, but the sights and smells of the city here were far different from those at home. Then again, the technology here was almost as bad off as her first ship engine...possibly worse. The bright side of that, though, was that it meant she could test her skills and see what all she could make from the limited resources she had.

Oh yes, definitely a good challenge.

With the idea of possibly revamping a couple of these cars to withstand the elements of the city, both weather and otherwise, Kaylee strolled out into the parking garage to look for her first subject.

Amber had been approaching a gargantuan vehicle that looked like the mini-mecha she had piloted in Germany when she heard the sound of light footsteps behind her. Twirling, she spotted a young woman around her age entering the garage, a cheerful look on her face. Amber really hadn't expected anyone else to be there, and edged a little closer to the vehicle, brushing up against it as she tried to decide if this girl was friend or foe.

She looked nice...

The large vehicle--a Hummer, according to the back end--caught Kaylee's attention fairly quickly. Outfitting a car that appeared to already be built for sturdiness wouldn't be too difficult at all, and would probably be safer to roam around in than that snazzy doodad of Thomas'.

It seemed like a good place to start, and Kaylee moved closer to it. Maybe she could get a look at the engine, see what all needed to be done for it to be up and running--and OH GOD there was another person. The mechanic all but jumped out of her skin as she spotted the other woman, then gave a nervous laugh as she attempted to compose herself.

"Sorry, didn't see you there. This your car?"

Amber shook her head, still not stepping away from the car.

"No," she said, her voice so quiet that it was barely audible. "No, it's not." She wondered if she should say anything else.
