There had been snow in New York all winter long for as long as she had lived there, but Jennifer had never been in the midwest for the winter. It was delightful, for a time, to have all the snow, to go out and get the tall boots that kept her feet warm and helped her tromp through the icy whiteness. She had pulled on an angora sweater and jeans, then her white wool coat over that, and topped it off with a pale blue hat sporting floppy rabbit ears ( ... )

"If you like snow," he muttered before turning to greet the woman. Her voice was familiar but John didn't use phones so much so he didn't have the ability that some people had to recognize voices over it. She was a small woman and looked like she could use a pair of skis to go along with that outfit. The term 'snow bunny' fluttered across his mind before he dismissed it. John didn't like to think of himself as sexist and wasn't going to start now.

"I'd keep your voice down though. There's supposed to be some demonic monkeys around and in fact a small group of them are just inside the entrance," John said, indicating the aquarium. Sometimes he was surprised at the things he could say with a straight face.

He muttered something, making Jennifer assume he did not share her sentiments about the weather. But it was too much of a wintry wonderland to not feel in high spirits. There was also the horrifically cute hat and gloves she had found. In New York she would have never dreamed of wearing them, but here, it was not as if she had a reputation to maintain.

"Yes, I'd heard something about interesting problems around the Shedd Aquarium. I came to take a look around."

He seemed familiar, but she had met so many people in the past weeks that she was having a hard time putting faces with voices. She approached him in her own winter whites and held out a hand after pulling back the mitten top to reveal functional glove fingers beneath.

"Jennifer Walters."

There is a shriek from somewhere to the east of the Aquarium.

For the winter weather the local Pokemon Champion was wearing... proper boots, a long sleeve shirt, and a scarf. Otherwise he was dressed as was usual, with his jacket buttoned close. It was cold, but he's had worse. He'd worry about warmer clothes later. Right now he had to worry about how his Pokemon would handle the weather. Saur would be at a disadvantage outside, Pika and Poli less so... but none of them were Ice types by nature.

He managed to get to the Aquarium without any trouble aside weather. He'd heard people talk about creatures there. He thought, maybe, if he was brought here some wild Pokemon made it here too. Now, if it wasn't Pokemon he could still fight them. He just hoped they were. He could get Pika to reason with them. Red however didn't get to the front door, he got to the side. The handicap entrance, which Red was happy to discover wasn't locked or else he would have had to gotten creative. Which was loud and destructive.

Red let Pika and Poli out once indoors, "Alright, let's look around."

He'd been falling. Then he wasn't. And then it was way, way too bright.

Sam really wasn't dressed for the snow. He especially wasn't dressed for waking up in a snow bank. He shuddered, pushing himself up and looking around. It didn't look family, but he wasn't sure what would look familiar right now.

He looked back at the building just in time to see someone going in one of the doors and decided to follow them. Maybe he could ask some questions, get a few answers.

Pika's ears twitched as he came out of the ball. Red whirled around with his pet to face whoever was following them. Pika's very attentive to these sorts of things for a reason. Of course he was expecting some kind of monkey monster, instead it was just a guy. He seemed lost and cold... well, at least it wasn't a monster.

"Hi," Red nodded Pika and Poli further in, the two looked a bit doubtful, but started to explore without getting to far away, "Here about the rumors?"

Loud chattering can be heard from an exhibit near the main entrance.

Vin crouched on the rooftop of a building across from the aquarium, burning tin and scanning the area carefully. She'd heard the rumors of creatures roaming the grounds and decided to investigate for herself. She'd heard lots of things about the things roaming this city but as far as she was concerned, the easiest way to learn to deal with them was first hand.

Standing up Vin burned steel and Pushed off the metal rim of the building, the force carrying her over the street and above the aquarium roof. She took a coin from her pouch and tossed it down ahead of her, Pushing against it when it hit the roof, slowing her descent enough to let her land lightly. Taking a moment to down a vial of steel, iron and pewter she forced open a locked roof access door and made her way inside to see for herself if there was any truth to these stories.

A mixture of curiosity and boredom had led him to the Aquarium, the site of another showdown quite a few years before. From the description the locals were giving, it didn't sound like it would be another run-in with the Denarians even though judging from that one guy's post, the fuckers were in town anyway.

As if testimony to that incident a couple of years ago, snow had already piled up around the landmark. Kincaid took it in stride though, heading towards the front door, and catching sight of a small black-haired girl disappearing apparently through the roof itself. Looked like he wasn't going to be only one crashing the party.

Vin crouched on the opposite side of the interior roof access door, ear pressed against it and tin burning as she listened to any sign of movement on the other side. Hearing none, she flared pewter quickly and twisted the doorknob, popping and breaking the lock and letting her walk inside easily.

The Aquarium was quiet except for the occasional splash and ripple of the water and Vin didn't add much sound to it as she crept between the tanks. If something really was in here she had no doubt she'd find it before too long.

A lump of something flaming sails through a window, sliding to a smelly, burny stop across the room.

Kel had been filled in by Red as to what had sort of been going on. She still wasn't totally sure, but she did know that he, at the very least, seemed to be trustworthy. After exploring town for a bit she had stopped by a very strange food waystation. Apparently these people used large yellow arches as a sign for those still illiterate to signify food.

One strange sandwich later (she had left a note to bill the Crown), Kel decided to head over to this "aquarium". Red had mentioned something about evil monkeys that needed to be taken care of. She tromped through the snow to the large building, blessing the fact that she had chosen her woolen breeches that day. It was colder here than in Tortall, and she would have to be careful to avoid frostbite.

When she arrived, the building loomed above her. Kel was unimpressed. She proceeded to do a thorough weapons check, and decided against stringing her bow- it would be near useless inside. Hefting her glaive, she opened the door, and strode in.

Inside the museum, all is quiet and tranquil. The fish are swimming in their tanks with fishy diligence. A faint chittering can be heard from somewhere farther away, perhaps down the stairs near the otter exhibit?

"It's not common to see someone so heavily armed here," Charity said as she entered the building behind Kel. Enough distance lay between them to ensure that if the lady knight had not noticed her before she spoke, being startled would not result in an immediate blade at her throat. "Particularly not with this type of weaponry."

Her statement was clearly far from a criticism, because the older woman had heard about the strange things happening at the aquarium and also came fully armed. Charity wore kevlar beneath her mail, however, and carried a warhammer as her weapon of choice, sword at her hip.

Long blond hair was braided and wrapped around her head.

Kel whipped around, leveling her glaive and quickly assessing this newcomer. She cursed herself for not hearing the door open, and vowed to be less complacent. There were no sparrows here to act as scouts- she would have to rely on herself.

"I was trained to be prepared, and so far, it has seemed like a good idea in this realm. I am Lady Knight Keladry from Tortall here to investigate reports of monsters. From your equipment, that seems to be your purpose as well. Who might I have the honor of addressing?" Kel looked straight at her companion and almost imperceptibly lowered the point of her glaive. She wanted to be friendly, but not stupid. Better to look foolish and be alive than appear nonchalant while dead.

In that vein, she kept one ear trained on the strange noises coming from the basement. It would not do to be surrounded unawares on her first day here.
