Vin crouched on the rooftop of a building across from the aquarium, burning tin and scanning the area carefully. She'd heard the rumors of creatures roaming the grounds and decided to investigate for herself. She'd heard lots of things about the things roaming this city but as far as she was concerned, the easiest way to learn to deal with them was first hand.

Standing up Vin burned steel and Pushed off the metal rim of the building, the force carrying her over the street and above the aquarium roof. She took a coin from her pouch and tossed it down ahead of her, Pushing against it when it hit the roof, slowing her descent enough to let her land lightly. Taking a moment to down a vial of steel, iron and pewter she forced open a locked roof access door and made her way inside to see for herself if there was any truth to these stories.

A mixture of curiosity and boredom had led him to the Aquarium, the site of another showdown quite a few years before. From the description the locals were giving, it didn't sound like it would be another run-in with the Denarians even though judging from that one guy's post, the fuckers were in town anyway.

As if testimony to that incident a couple of years ago, snow had already piled up around the landmark. Kincaid took it in stride though, heading towards the front door, and catching sight of a small black-haired girl disappearing apparently through the roof itself. Looked like he wasn't going to be only one crashing the party.

Vin crouched on the opposite side of the interior roof access door, ear pressed against it and tin burning as she listened to any sign of movement on the other side. Hearing none, she flared pewter quickly and twisted the doorknob, popping and breaking the lock and letting her walk inside easily.

The Aquarium was quiet except for the occasional splash and ripple of the water and Vin didn't add much sound to it as she crept between the tanks. If something really was in here she had no doubt she'd find it before too long.

A lump of something flaming sails through a window, sliding to a smelly, burny stop across the room.

Vin dove to the side immediately after spotting the flicker coming at her through the window. On instinct, she rolled behind one of the larger tanks, glass knife flashing into her hand and...

... and very nearly wretched as the stink hit her tin-enhanced senses.

Lord Ruler...! She hated using that name, even as a curse, but it was all she could think of at the moment. Moving fast enough that the... something was just coming to a stop when she moved, Vin ducked halfway out of her cover and threw her hand out. The coin glittered in midair for an instant before she Pushed it out the window, returning fire.

He knew the aquarium well enough from his previous excursion there and it didn't take him long to navigate through the quiet, eerily-lit halls towards where he estimated the girl had probably arrived. He kept to the shadows, silent and lethal with his gun casually resting in his hands, and kept his eyes open for any of the demons that littered the grounds.

He paused momentarily when heard the sounds of shuffling down an adjoining hallway. His face devoid of emotion, he followed the sounds towards the fight.

There's a shriek from outside, and chattering noises start to get louder. They seem to be coming from above. Maybe the ceiling? Or the ventilation ducts?

Vin looked up sharply at the chattering sounds from above and slipped another few coins into her hand. She took a deep breath, held it, and flared her tin listening closely and doing her best to pinpoint where the sounds originated and quickly returned her tin to normal, scowling at how quickly her reserve had dwindled from that single flare.

She threw the coins forward, burning steel and Pushing on them to hammer the pieces of metal against the vent the sounds seemed to be coming from. Even if they didn't penetrate it, she hoped it would at least stir up the whatever it was enough to stop hiding. Better to face it here than leave it running loose to attack her when she left or some other person who couldn't protect themselves like she could.

The thumping against the vent doesn't seem to deter whatever is chittering. A few seconds later, the vent falls to the ground, and a half dozen knee-high monkeys spill out of the vent above Vin. The monkeys don't seem bothered by the fall, and, in fact, are already gathering ammunition.

Something's still chittering behind her though.

Well, that wasn't good. Vin frowned at the monkeys tumbling from the vent and glanced over her shoulder at the chittering behind her. It looked like she might have gotten herself into a bad situation....

The smell of the... ammunition hit her and she dropped a coin to the floor at her feet and Pushed. The arc of the Steelpush carried her over the monkeys and she threw her hand out, Pushing a barrage of coins at the monsters as she passed over them and spun in midair to face whatever might be coming behind her.

Kincaid followed the noises to a previously silent hall, the ghostly blue lights from the surrounding pools dancing across the dark walls and ceiling. It took him less than a second to assess the situation - he hadn't personally seen those creatures before, but he suspected like a number of things in the city, they weren't exactly harmless.

He took a brief moment to watch the girl use some sort of magic he had never before to begin attacking the monsters before he slid back into the shadows. Using a gun would be a waist of bullets on so many - good thing Chicago had forced him to get creative.
