I did have something else to do today, but carvedwood had something on her mind. I've had a conversation with her today on power and respect, and evil. She also brought up this post and asked me when I first began to hate Voldemort.

...It's complicated. )

This is going to sound really stupid. But that sounds like how I feel about Dumbledore. I had a lot of respect for him, and I trusted him. He was an important influence in my life. And he manipulated me like I was his puppet, and used me, and withheld information from me, and pushed me into playing a role I didn't want to play. And I sometimes feel anger towards him about that. Yet I also remember him very fondly.

Like I said. A stupid comparison. I'll shut up now.

Actually, Harry... that isn't stupid at all. It's a very intelligent and thoughtful comparison to make, and an apt one, as well.

I don't see how. Dumbledore was a manipulate old bastard, but he didn't make me kill anyone. I chose to do that on my own.

Er. No offense meant.

Because it's not about the events or the choices or the circumstances. It's about the emotion. Emotions don't go away simply because we don't think they're justified in the end.
Albus taught you, protected you, encouraged you, paid attention to you. Made you feel as though you had worth to him, that he truly cared about you. Made you laugh and think and feel.
So, yes, the comparison is an apt one.
