OP - what kind of car are you looking for? I hate Carter VW in Ballard but we love University UW and Audi. We service our cars there even though we bought them at Carter (we have a VW and an Audi) and they are so professional and not condesending to women at all (most service advisors are women, I highly recommend Dominique). I know people say the dealership is a waste of money for repairs but we want quality parts and service (esp since we are under warranty) and having a dealership with a good service department makes me feel confident about buying a car from that dealership.
I also bought a car from Hyundai of Everett in 2005 and I had a decent experience
I'm looking for something smallish, inexpensive, and with decent fuel economy. The Hyundai Accent is actually currently at the top of my list, but I've only been researching for a couple of days. I'm also looking at the Honda Fit, the Toyota Yaris, and the Scion.
The thing about Hyundai of Everett was that I worked online with a salesguy to negotiate a price ahead of time (on a new car but you could do the same with a used car on their lot) and printed it out and brought it with me so that they couldn't dicker around with me after I drove it and decided if I wanted to buy it or not. I think Hyundais are great cars and I had no issues with my 2005 Elantra. I'd research prices too on KBB and Edmounds (spell?) so you know what's legit for a sales price before you step foot in a dealership. I'm not sure what your car situation is but act like it's not an emergency, that you don't have to have a car that day, even if you do. Be willing to walk away if anything doesn't feel right
Thanks. This all sounds like really good advice. I have a decent little pickup truck at the moment, but I have a feeling I'm going to need to replace it sometimes in the next year or so. I have time to shop around and do my research.
