Hey Seattle,

I just accepted an offer from UW's School of Public Health, I'll be moving out here sometime in June. and yeah, I know I'm asking to get snarked.

but the good news is, I'm from Detroit, where the weather is actually worse and the standards for living are so low that you'll never hear me complain about anything. plus I'll only be here ( Read more... )

The U-district should be about as intimidating to you as a nice cup of tea.

Might be helpful to give an idea of your price range, while you're at it.

I second this. If you've lived in Detroit for any length of time, you'll just laugh at Seattle crime.

This! I lived in Cleveland before I moved here and the crime here is small fries.

Wallingford is good for grad students. If you like walking, you can walk from there to the campus in under an hour.. or you can take a bus.

Also, Wallingford has Molly Moons ice cream, Jhan Jay, some bars, a grocery store, a drug store, a cupcake place.. and probably a lot of rooms that need to be rented out.

I live in Wallingford and really like it. I rarely venture out of Walilngford/Fremont/Ballard/U District area. Occasionally I'll go to Northgate, but everything I need and want is here in a big city with a small town feel.

Doesn't microsoft have some sort of little shuttle bus that will pick you up and do your laundry on the way to work?

No recommendations one way or the other but I gotta say-if you research for your classes as well as you did for this post, you will do well.

I am confused though. If you are going to live with your BF, doesn't he already have a place to live since he works here? Or are the two of you planning to move to a different place?

sorry if that wasn't clear. He lived in Bellevue before (interning) and is currently in Michigan with me. He's moving back to work full time in June.

All those neighborhoods are going to be good for bus access. I lived in Wallingford during grad school and now live in Ravenna. Lots of buses leave from the University District to the eastside, so that shouldn't be a problem.
