These are great! I've also tried my hand at a little drawing and it is hard. I get ya about it being so, so much easier to work from photos than to invent anything from whole cloth, especially when you're learning. And using stills from BtVS means that your source material is often a bit shadowy and hard to see in its entirety! But that said, I'm really impressed! You've certainly managed to achieve more realism than I ever managed. They really look like the people they're supposed to be, and that's not as easy as it sounds.

When I look closely I can see what you mean about the kiss. I think it's that their lips don't quite seem to line up? But that's only when I look really closely. And overall, I still really buy the emotions of the scene and think both drawings are quite lovely. :) Keep up the good work!

Oh, what a lovely comment ❤️ thank you so much!! You're absolutely right, it's SO hard to manage making drawings look like real people; in fact, I'm always inordinately proud of myself whenever I manage it hahaha. As for inventing from scratch, yeah, I'm like utterly incapable of that 🙈

As for the kiss, yeah, you make a good point, but I just couldn't find another way to do it - because the picture itself is unclear, as you were saying... in any case, I'm super glad it takes you to look very closely to see the problem!! Thanks so much again for this comment ❤️

Lovely sketches and I actually like the deliberate "unfinished" quality of them (rather like Spuffy in that regard).

Shadowing is nicely done especially with the faces.

Oh wow, that's such a good point about Spuffy being "unfinished". I love it! Excellent, that'll be my rationalising of my own drawings of them from now on haha.
Thank you so much!!

Everyone's their own worst critic. Your drawings are awesome.

Requests:
*Now I kinda wanna see how you may draw
Dawn if she actually were 14.
*Oh, and Joyce with a smile and curls.
*Buffy's determination to beat the Master down when she was resurrected the first time.
*Spike's pleased smirk in "School Hard."
*and whatever else you'd like to share.

You're the sweetest. :')
So:
- I can actually only copy from pictures, so I wouldn't have a clue what would make Dawn look younger... 🤔 This is one of those things for which I'd love to take a drawing class, so that I could learn this kinda stuff.
- Joyce is probably not gonna happen, I'll be honest, but Buffy's determination does sound cool... do you know where I could find any stills to copy from?
- Oh, and Spike's satisfied smirk! Which one exactly are you thinking of? 😏 I think my favourite might be his full-on grin of "who am I kidding, I love to brag!", I need to look for stills...
Thanks for your lovely comment and for the suggestions!!

(grins) So they came off as challenges; that's what I intended by purposely leaving them slightly ambiguous.

The actress who played Dawn appears to have been a child star, so finding a picture of her should be quite simple. But, if you wanted, you could just imagine that her cheeks are fuller and that she has a preteen hairstyle from the mid-nineties.

I wanted you to pick whichever smirk you wanted; no point in your drawing the one you don't like the best.

I don't know if there's a still of Buffy doing what I half imagine, half recall. Maybe it was after she revived or when she was about to push the master through the glass ceiling. (shrugs) I don't do much photo manipulation.

That's okay about Joyce; I just like her smile.

Do you trace or do you do (thumb and forefinger) perspective? This video tutorial might help you understand what I mean. I haven't watched it, but it looks promising.

I'll be honest, I'm taking them as suggestions rather than challenges haha but I do appreciate it! I guess I'm realising that I haven't really been tempted by a single female subject before now, but Dawn does look so beautiful... *wistful sigh* I'll think about it!

No, I don't trace. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "(thumb and forefinger) perspective" but I don't really do any perspective study. Basically I just literally copy a picture: I usually start with a very rough sketch of the whole subject to try and get the proportions right; then I start with the details from a single point, filling the whole subject bit by bit (I usually change the initial sketch during this part of the process but it's still useful to have it done in advance even if it turns out wrong); basically what I do is try to keep the same proportions between bits of the subject that I can see on the picture; then, I fill in more details as a final step, especially shades.
