Well, RIGHT. I remember that bit. But what I remember even more was after he biffed on the motorcycle and he needed help getting it back in socket by smashing it against a pillar (not the smartest move, mind you). I thought of the same thing the first time I went down, and lo and behold just laying against the ground in the same way popped it right back in. I didn't even need any outside force this time -- I used my other arm to move the dislocated one into a relatively normal position (the same one it would be in when wearing the sling), and after a few seconds it just slid back into place rather unexpectedly. But OH THE RELIEF! Hahaha.
I had an ex-friend who dislocated his shoulder so many times that relocating it became a simple matter of twisting his torso in such a manner that it swung back into place. Of course, having done it that many times made it easy to dislocate in the first place.
I think that's why such a small amount of stress caused mine to pop out -- the initial injury tore or stretched something making it easy to re-insert. My left shoulder sustained no such initial injury and doesn't have this problem, but if it did I expect it would be about the same.
