In regards to some stuff happening around me in nerd circles

I've been thinking of victims and bullies lately. How culturally ingrained bullying and victimizing is, and how many thousands of different ways there are to do both. I've seen plenty of men being addicted to victimhood and plenty of female bullies..but gender culture still makes the other way around more common. Either way, being addicted to ( Read more... )

Good luck w/ r to pondering how to fit lj into this new phase of life---it's a bummer to realize retroactively that your life has changed and lj (or the internet or whatever) doesn't work for you the way it used to

Yeah, I think I may privatize (as in friends-only) this journal for the future, and just write even more for my own sake, and those few who want to follow along on that road. And the writing will probably mostly have to take place on weekends. I may somewhat be able to keep up tolerably with friends journals on some week evenings and mornings.
It however totally will not go along with the job. Like not at all.

As long as you have a place/time to write for yourself if you want, I think you're doing okay. Sounds uberhectic! Good luck with it all

I'll be along for the ride--though I'm having trouble, myself, figuring out what I want to be doing with LJ and with blogging generally, and I never thought I'd be in that position -_-

I agree with you on bullying, and what helps against it, although I realize that when I wrote this I wasn't thinking so much about "mundane" school yard or playground bullying, but more about the subtle ways that grown ups use such dynamics. (not related to anything happening to me personally)

Grown ups who have become addicted to victimhood or bullying are also experts in not viewing these things as such, they justify and call shit by fancy names and really put a blind eye to the grand gist of what behavior is really dominating them.

Apologies, I must have missed something about this new format that you're talking about. I hope it's not anything bad.

If you simply mean more busy times at work, you know... priorities.

I do mean work. It just takes up so much more than could ever have anticipated, and it can still
be fairly intense.

Aren't there calmer periods of the year? Or it's constantly like that?

I suppose election times may be extra intense, but I truly don't really know how this job is in the long run yet, even though i've been on it for 3 months. I also am not exactly sure if I'll be staying on for more than a limited time. All I can see is how it is right now. I am sorry about TP in particular. I even thought about a post some weeks ago, but then I realized, when would I be able to respond to comments?
I hope things change. And I will try to figure out a scaled down way of existing here, because I really do want to keep up with LJ.

I think patterns of thought are habit forming, so when people get into a certain pattern of thought, or style of living, then they tend to keep on going with it, even if the situation no longer merits it and even if the thought patterns or ways of living aren't working very well for them anymore (if they ever did).

I agree. There is also an aspect of "saving face", where one reality cannot be abandoned, in spite of being constructed, because the ego has been relying too heavily on it for too long.
