Schlimmbesserung: German. Literally translates to "worse betterment". It refers to an improvement that makes things worse.

Livejournal is starting to annoy me of late. When I view my friends' page, it shows me Sarcasma's latest entry, and nothing else. At the bottom of the page it says "Showing latest entries", but there is no "Go Earlier" option. I get

I know lots of people who have been struggling with the changes.

I go to my profile to click on individual people's posts. There is also a filter thing at the very top of the screen that helps a bit.

I hadn't noticed the Filter at the top there (thank you for including the graphic!) but it does not help me, unfortunately. Picking "Users" still just shows me the one post by Sarcasma. Bah. I liked it when I had more control over my content, too.

I suspect Livejournal is getting somewhat panicky, with people abandoning it in favour of Facebook, Google+, etc, and thus feel that they should make ground-breaking, innovative changes to woo us all ... but they keep doing goofy crap like this that makes me want to use it less.

I've noticed the same thing, it annoys me. I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it either.

I've had trouble with LJ all along. There are certain very common features I cannot figure out, such as when I am on the page where there's a Manage Entries option and when I'm not.

Frankly, I think the world's attention span is so short I just post on FB now unless it's pix.

But since FB now publishes my friends' phone numbers, medical X-ray results and porn subscriptions, I'm thinking about stepping away from that too.

Zow. I thank you, my only friend, for researching this for own lazy and easily-confused ass. That is indeed triple-caps-stupid that we cannot circumvent LJ's decision to not show older friends entries (what if I haven't been on in a month? Oh, well?).

I also thank you for the link to my profile page! Again, we are in agreement as to the dopiness of removing all links to said page.

I may poke around with the custom friend group filter option, but really, Stupidity Levels are getting ridonculously high if that's what I have to do to view all my friends' posts.

Also, it is wackiness of the highest order that we appear to have different Friend pages. Not sure at all why that should be.

All in all, a big thumbs-up to whoever at LJ decided to improve this for me.

I've been poking around on Google+, but it's not exactly intuitive. I *want* it to be the new Facebook, but I'm not sure it's going to work out.

I am weary of social media; I don't want to join something new (Google+) and start again. I wish the ones I am using (Livejournal, Facebook) would let me just use their sites as is without them trying to bloody improve everything all the time (resulting in confusing, unwieldy interfaces and/or privacy/security breaches out the yin-yang).

I agree. But that, I think is not the way of the world anymore and we show our curmudgeonly side by complaining about too much change.

And I still don't really get Twitter.
