Marty Kaplan had
this to say about Ralph Nader
It's hard to believe, I know, but there is now an entire generation of 20- and 30-something Americans who don't know that Ralph Nader wasn't always a total a**hole

my only question is when *can* we openly debate the policies of israel, at least as much as they are debated within israel? why must it be taboo for americans to merely broach the subject?
if you said he made anti-semitic remarks, fine. but no, he stands accused of having "views on israel." anyone who truly cares about human rights ought to have "views" on that state, too, as do many liberal jewish folk, both inside and outside israel.

Of course not, but neither is the contrary true - 'No criticism of Israel is Anti-Semitic'. - Although I think I hear this defense of Anti-Semitic leaning remarks as often as I hear the claim of 'Anti-Semite' for ones that are innocent of bias.
I don't think I can put Ralph in the camp of innocence however. What Ralph thinks of Jews, I do not know - I am not sure he even knows. But statements claiming Israel as the puppet master of the US Government only serve to incite age old Anti-Semitic beliefs that the Jews control the world governments. Perhaps that was not his intent, and sometimes the historical implied meanings of statements ARE from ignorance of the implication but also they can be the product of a hateful mind, conscious or not.
I really think his statements about Israel, the obviously conscious 'Uncle Tom' statement, and other racially charged statements Nader made during this election cycle really do show a hateful and bigoted mind.
