Because it's almost midnight and I'm going to Vividcon tomorrow, so why not?!

Via pretty much everyone it seems like - the NPR Top 100 Sci Fi Books meme: strong the ones you've read, emphasis the ones you intend to read, underline series/books you've read part of, and strike the ones you never intend to read.

No Andre Norton? Really? Who made this list?!?!?

I agree with a number of them - and have heard of a lot of others, even if I haven't read them.. I totally don't get some - like newly published - sorry - you are not 'must reads' yet.

Apparently it was a popularity contest but still. I am side-eying this list.

There is a lot of stuff missing from this list IMO, and a couple I would remove. I had the EXACT SAME response to the Wheel of Time series as you did, and books 6, 7 and 8 are sitting on my shelf mocking me for the money I spent on them.

45. The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula K. LeGuin - I've never read any LeGuin.

*jaw hits floor* None? *has a sad* You are one of two people on my F-list that I would have bet money has read some, if not all of LeGuin's work.

65. I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson - I'm pretty sure the dog dies, so no. Not reading this.

The book is EXCELLENT! The movie SUCKED! I understand why you won't read it though; the dog is the ENTIRE POINT OF THE BOOK, and the emotional heart of the ENTIRE BOOK, and the fact that the movie changed so much around that is an unending source of rage from me... along with the adjusted ending that ruins the title, but that is what happens when Hollywood depends on focus groups to pick which ending will make it to the theatre. GRRR! *hugs little book*

In retrospect, I think I read the first Earthsea book! It's a fairly slender book, right? I need to get back to those, though!

the dog is the ENTIRE POINT OF THE BOOK

HUH. That actually makes me WANT to read it, but. Yeesh. IDK.

How Donaldson managed to get me to read an ENTIRE SERIES about a character I ACTUALLY LOATHE speaks to his story-telling and secondary characters.

RIGHT? RIGHT? I still cannot believe I read all those fucking books in high school. I mean, I KNEW they were fucked up and that he was HORRIBLE, but I was COMPELLED TO KEEP READING. Why. Whyyyyyy did I do this.

That sound you heard was brynnmck defriending me for not having read this yet.

Ahahahaha. Never! Though I do love that book. But I can't even find my copy of it, so.

The last I saw it - and this is hilarious that I even know this - it was in your bathroom. :P

#41: So nice to find someone like the other Eddings books!

#11: I love both the movie and the book, in seperate and different ways.

#65: I have neither seen the movie nor read the book for the very same reason.

Also, I totally agree that Good Omens should be on the list. How can the Drizzt series be here and not Good Omens?

I am genuinely shocked at the lack of Good Omens. GENUINELY.
