I just finished watching S1 again, and I agree with you. It's possible that they'll give Ward a redemption story, and I think that it's likely. If Ward feels anything for Skye, it felt more like an unhealthy obsession, and not real love. As though, if he could have her, he could justify what he'd done.

Personally, I felt that there was far more chemistry, at least in a romantic sense, between Skye and Simmons. I'm not sure Grant is capable of a real, human emotion at this point.

Have you been thinking of that moment around the beginning of "Yes Men" in which Simmons was tending to the recovering Skye?

That and the hug between Skye and Simmons in the finale, and a few other scenes. It seems clear that Simmons might not feel the same way about Fitz as he does about her, so I think there's at least the possibility that she's interested in the same sex. Skye strikes me as bi, but yeah, that scene where Simmons was tending to Skye gave me definite femmeslash vibes.
