This week's The Mentalist made me cry.

My sister's wedding rehearsal was tonight, and afterwards we went out for dinner with all the helpers. We started talking about TV shows and I mentioned that I preferred cop shows like The Mentalist over shows like Mad Men. In cop shows, most of the time the bad guy gets caught and the victim gets justice. ( Read more... )

I know what you mean. I can only watch shows like Mad Men in small doses, and Breaking Bad has never appealed to me even remotely. That's not to say I like all cop shows, just the ones like The Mentalist that are more about the characters than the crime they're solving.

Yeah, I'm not much for dystopias or unrelenting grimness. I don't watch that many cop shows, really, but I prefer good guys who win at least 75% of the time, who get justice for those who need it. Throw in some snappy banter, some interesting characters, and I'm happy. *g*

It was very emotional, wasn't it? The Husband and I figured out the true nature of the crime, but we both missed on that ending. So we were all tense and angry about the injustice of what the three suspects had done to the poor kid, and then we were relieved when the reveal was made. So again, very emotional. :)

And how great was Glenda (the Good Witch)? (I didn't catch that either until the very end with the Dorothy, and the red shoes, and the "Somewhere Over the Rainbow.") That actor rocked that part! He was the soul of that episode, and if he'd been at all off with his choices, that whole episode could have been more mawkish and sentimental than emotional. ("Here's me hoping I look good in prison orange..." = awesome!)

(That reminds me...off to IMDB! Who was that masked man?)

I figured out the true nature of the crime pretty about halfway through, when Glenda refused to try to ID the guy in the alley, saying she was scared. I pinged that she was trying to cover something up, but I assumed she was covering up the fact that she knew what had really happened. And then, when Jane went back to meet all the different drag queens, that's when I figured out what really happened! But I was very surprised to find out *how* it happened, that is, how they set it all up. That was very, very cool. :)

Wow, I totally didn't catch on that Glenda = Glinda the Good Witch! Hee! I didn't ping on the shoes until right at the end. I just assumed they were Glenda's, like she said.
