I love his enthusiasm for life, for adventure. I love his willingness to put himself out there, open and innocent, at least compared to the rest of SG-1, and emotionally available. I love the way he softens his hardened teammates, and baffles them, and makes them groan and facepalm and hide their smiles

That really makes me want to watch season 9 and 10! It sounds like there's a lot to be said for Cam!

Cam is adorable :) He's like a wriggling puppy, all boundless energy, and you get to see him mature into a good commander. Not to say he starts off ignorant or incompetent, because he's totally competent, on the ball and clearly determined to do a good job. But he's inexperienced about gate travel and meeting bad guys up close and personal (he was a fighter pilot before).

What I love best about Cam is his fresh perspective, his willingness to reach out to a pretty jaded and not overly demonstrative bunch. His friendship with Sam in particular is lovely, some of the best moments in S9-10 IMHO.

This is a lovely post that just hits the nail right on the head. (Love your DW layout/header!) And this is just my opinion, but I think a lot of those qualities in Cam can to some extent be attributed to Ben Browder himself, who in every interview/public appearance I've watched, seems like a very good, decent guy. It all kind of bleeds through to his characters.

I think the writing supports it too, but you're absolutely right that Ben Browder infused the Cameron Mitchell character with his good humour and sense of honour. But that's what I love about television, that a good actor has as much to do with shaping a character as the writing. It's a lovely symbiosis, when done right :)

Oh yeah, the writing definitely supports it too, I wasn't refuting that or lessening its importance in any way :) I do have to admit though that it was Ben Browder coming on to the show that finally got me to sit down and watch SG-1 *g*

Once upon a time, I started to crush on Ben Browder on SG-1. I may have to revisit that....which season did he make his appearance? I can't remember.

And Cam and John...now that's also an idea I can get my head around! Any fic recs?

Browder is only in Seasons 9 and 10, alas, and the two SG-1 DVD movies, The Ark of Truth and Continuum. But he's awesome in them!

John/Cam is my OTP so yeah, I have fic recs! Definitely check out bluflamingo: The Year That Was, Gray Skies Surround Me, What Happens Next, and her SGA Big Bang from 2 years ago, Never As Bad As Anticipated.

skieswideopen's The Measure of Your Touch is angsty, but lovely. slybrarian's Headline News is hilarious, as most of his fic is! There are also a few John/Cam fic recs here on the sg_flyboys DW comm.

And if you don't mind a self-pimp, Red Ribbon is still my best John/Cam fic. There's more I can rec, though, if you're interested!
