Meta on how people read the meta of Origin Stories, not to mention the vid itself!

Ah yes. *grins widely*

Timing is everything.

Via metafandom: giandujakiss posted only yesterday about how untrue_account and giandujakiss's commentaries on their vid Origin Stories (see previous posts for vid review) had been mistaken by non-fannish folk as their "primary documents", while the vid itself was mistaken as supplementary material.

In her post Lost in Translation, she ( Read more... )

I had never seen that Heroes vid before, and as someone whose main issues with Heroes revolve around the female characters, it was really fascinating to me.

Also, I watched Origin Stories earlier and I had actually seen it before! I had thought as much, just based on the descriptions, but in my head you had been the person who sent it to me before and now I have no idea who that person actually was!

Hee! I'm in your head, sending you vids! Nope, wasn't me, though I wish I'd seen this vid long, long ago. It is bold and brilliant and exactly what I needed after last week.

Yeah, I remember you talking about Heroes and the way it handles female characters. Which is why we don't watch the actual show? But I'm glad you liked the vid -- it's one of those vids I wish I could just mail to Tim Kring and tell him to start paying attention.

I'm sitting here now, thinking, "Who the HELL could it have been?" I'm thinking it was maybe thingswithwings, but I can't be sure ( ... )

I adore SPN with an unholy adoration (though I'll admit to being way behind this season) and I've sometimes defended it against charges of misogyny that were... probably more accurate than I'd like to admit. It's tough, when you love flawed stories.

I just want things to be better for women in media so badly at this point. I felt like Buffy got me all revved up for kickass women that I haven't really seen since it went off the air.

YES. It's so strange that I look at Seasons 1 and 2 of Without A Trace and wonder, "Why can't genre TV give us women like that?" Why aren't the SGA women, and the Heroes women, and SPN and hell, I'll throw in House even though it's not genre -- why can't the women be more like Vivian Johnson and Samantha Spade? And then I ask myself, why did WAT get lazier in its portrayal of women as the show got older? It's like writers stop trying. And genre writers barely try at all.

It might very well have been thingswithwings! I vaguely recall seeing her comment in other vid posts.

And not related to T:tSCC, much with the clicking, watched the vid and the commentary, and other links. Very interesting, both in the thing and in the tangential thoughts generated.

I'm inclined to think that both the vid and the commentary are complimentary primary documents as a DNA strand is best served by a duality.

With shows I'm inclined to agree with Mtat's article on how we may think we're watching the same show, but are really watching different ones based on what we bring to the narrative ( ... )
