*deep breath*
Simply recommending this vid could very well reignite last week's tension over my Nikki Wood icon. I have no desire to poke at anybody's sore spot, or to "bash" Spike. But this vid is so freakin' brilliant, thoughtful, and TRUE, both thematically and artistically, that I can't NOT rec it. Controversial icon and all.
I feel very strongly about Nikki Wood, as a character, and "The Slayer", as a concept, as embodied by the various young women we've seen Called over 12 seasons of the Buffyverse. I feel very strongly about some of the flaws of the Buffyverse -- because as much as I adore Joss, he sometimes made poor choices in his handling of Characters of Colour. Perhaps I don't always express myself clearly, but I do try, in my own way, to make my opinions known.
Of course, talking about Nikki or Robin Wood means talking about Spike and dealing with fandom's diverse interpretations of his character.
If you can't handle a vid that talks about race and feminism in a way that is, inevitably, unflattering to Spike (and Buffy, Angel, and Wesley), don't watch this vid.
If, however, you want to watch a brilliant political argument (yes, there's an agenda) in the form of music and clips, then go visit

Sweet Charity post to download or
watch on imeem.
