My final word on this matter.

Apr 29, 2008 22:35

I was going to make this a private post. Figured there's no sense in making my flist suffer through this. But then, heck. I just re-watched the first two episodes of The Magnificent Seven ("Ghosts of the Confederacy" and "One Day Out West") and -- *squees*! Oh, I am so in love with those boys! *cuddles their dusty selves* And I pretty much said, ( Read more... )

Hoookay, then.

Slavic-American? *runs and hides*
::snerk:: brilliant.

Yeah, it's probably best if we stay away from people with no sense of humour. It ends up with bad feelings all round. (I do like the person who replied to s'kat's rather snotty comment, though!)

Hee! I thought it was pretty funny too! Guess not everybody would find it as funny?

It ends up with bad feelings all round.

Eh. Well, I don't think we'll ever be each other's biggest fans. I've never before stated it so bluntly as that, but it's true nonetheless. But I never would've made this second post if she hadn't come into my journal and commented directly to me. Not that she isn't allowed to do that -- my journal is totally open to anonymous comments, except that I track ISP addresses.

But I'm just tired of talking in circles with her when it comes to Spike. Come on! I have Magnificent 7 fanfic to read!

maraceles is pretty awesome. And a Stargate fan!

I like your Nikki icon. Joss has skanky race and gender issues and it's nice to be reminded that Nikki has a story that exists from her point of view just like everyone else does. Meta-commentary, you know?

I kinda go back and forth on Joss. Because he gives us women, y'know? So many of them, all different with their own issues and stories, a whole universe bursting with powerful, self-determined women. And I love that he is so dedicated to writing about women, and championing feminism. But he does make a few... shall we say, creative choices that make me cringe. Handling race issues, yup.

Glad you like the icon :)

Reminds me of the woman who wrote this little tune a few years ago:

Cool I am
When I am with you
Cool I'm not
When I am lonely

I feel so sad
What I did wasn't right
I feel so bad
And I must say to you

Sorry, but

Nobody's perfect
Nobody's perfect
What did you expect
I'm doing my best

I feel so sad
But you know I'll be true
I feel so bad
And I must say to you

Nobody's perfect

:-)

Hmm, well, having read through your posts and here posts, I think you both make some good points. I think she missteps in the end, however, when she tries to assign motive to you. Only you can know *why* you created the icon and what you hoped it would say. Anything else is, well, interpretation.

No matter how well I argue the evidence and cite textual examples, if I try to debate Neil Gaiman about what he meant to say in The Sandman, I'm going to lose.

Have you read saeva's essay It's Nikki Wood's Fucking Coat: Race in the Buffyverse? As soon as I saw it pop up on my flist, I thought of you.

I haven't finished reading the essay yet, but I watched the vid by giandujakiss that Saeva mentioned in her notes. Wow. That vid was beyond awesome. And hell yes, it's Nikki Wood's fucking coat.

When Dana took the coat back in "Damage", I cheered out loud.
